10 Animals With Small Ears

Animal kingdom has different kinds of Ear some have large and floppy ears, however, others have small and unnoticeable ears.All these animals are well adapted to thier environments, Here is the list of animals with small ears,

1. Beaver (Castor)

Beaver js one of the common animals that live in lakes that spend part of their life in the water and part on the ground. The body of the animal species is very well adapted to the both lifestyles. (water and the ground).  Talking about the apperance, they have a long and flat tail which is one foot long. These land and water animals are nocturnal since they hunt and work during the night. They are territorial animals who can use musk oil to cover the branches and mud in the dams to mark their territory. The avarage lifespan of beaners is between  16 to 24 years in the wild.

2. Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus)

Polar Bear is one of the types of bears that have preferred habitat in the pack ice of the Arctic Ocean. Talking about the apperance, they are actually white in color but the fur is actually transparent and it only looks white because  it reflects visible light. Under the fur, the skin of bear species is black in color. These apex predators have 42 extremely sharp teeth and have an excellent sense of smell which will help them to detect prey from 32 km (20 mi) away  and even can sense seal’s breathing hole in the ice more than 800 meters away.  The unique characteristic of polar bear is that they slow thier metabolism if they do not eat for 10 days till they next meal. It is also listed as one of the popular animals that live in the tundra region.

3. Rock Hyrax (Procavia capensis)

Rock Hyrax is a mammal found in Eastern and Southern parts of Africa, Lebanon, Syria, Israel and Jordan. They are closely related to the elephants and manatees, however, there is a huge difference in size and appearance. The body length is between  17.7 to 21.6 inches in length and avarage wieght is between 6.6 to  8.8 pounds. The main predators of rock hyrax are leopards, servals, hyenas, pythons and birds of prey. Mating season among the specues will lasts from August to November, however, it is also depend on geographic location. The avarage lifespan of Rock Hyrax is upto  7 years in the wild and up to 12 years in captivity.

4. Arctic Fox (Vulpes lagopus)

Arctic Fox is one of the types of foxes  found in Alaska, Canada, Greenland, Scandinavia, and Russia. During summer season, the species lives in the he tundra region and during winter season they are seen on ice floes where its white coat serves as camouflage and hence listed as one of the amazing camouflaged animals in the world. These fluffy animals has has furry soles, short ears, and a short muzzle which is required for the chilly climate. They are among the common winter animals and require a thick, multi-layered fur coat that provides excellent insulation in the cold regions.

5. Pygmy Marmoset (Callithrix pygmaea)

Pygmy Marmoset is one of the types of monkeys found in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. This is the smallest monkey in the world that prefers to thrive in evergreen and river-edge forests and because of a their small size has lot of hiding places among the plants. It is the smallest monkey in the world, however, not the smallest primate since that title goes to the mouse lemur. The body length from head to body  is between 12 to 15 cm (4.7 to 6 in) and the tail is about  17 to 23 cm (6.7 to 9 in).  These cutest monkeys lives in  groups called troops and have diurnal lifestyle. It is also among the animals with small eyes in the world.

6. Black Footed Ferret (Mustela nigripes)

The  Black-footed ferret belong to the weasel family  and is the only ferret species native to the North America. The body length is upto 38 to 41 cm in length and avarage wieght is between 900 to 1000 grams. Talking about the apperance, they have a long, slender body along with its paws, ears, parts of its face, and its tail.  The neck is long and the legs short and stout.  The dietary habit is carnivores in nature and feeds on  prairie dogs, also sometimes mice, ground squirrels, or other small animals. The avarage lifespan of black footed ferret is between 3 to 9 years.

7. Capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris)

Capybara is one of the forest animals from South America found in swampy areas, near lakes, ponds and rivers. The population of these cutest animals are on decline because of uncontrolled hunting, however, the numbers are recovered because of farming of capybaras. Capybara produce warning bark when they sense danger to alerts other members of the group. Apart from that, they also make purr, whistle, squeal and grunt.Scents are another way of communication where males release substance in special glands to mark their territory whereas females release smelly substances only they they need to inform males that they are ready for mating.

8. Scottish Fold Cats (Felis catus)

Scottish Fold is a type of cat that originates from Scotland. The purebred descendants of a white barn cat called Susie that was born with folded ears. The avarage wieght of medium sized cat species is between  6 to 13 pounds and also known as “owl in cat suits” because of its owl-like large eyes and tiny ears. Talking about the appearance, they have a short or long coat that comes with all kind of colors and patterns.  The most popular colors includes orange, grey, white, calico and tabby. The avarage lifespan of Scottish Fold Cats is between 9 to 15 years.

9. Musk Ox (Ovibos moschatus)

Musk Ox is one of the strongest animals in the world that belongs to the bovid family. Talking about the appearance, they have a large stocky body along with short legs and tail. They are seen in herds of between 10 to 20 animals and when threatened they form a circle around the youngest members of the herd  and use thier horns to protect them. During mating season, male species used to secrete musky substance and hence the name from the glands underneath their eyes to attract the females. The mating season will take place from July to September were males used to collide with their heads at the speed of 30 miles per hour to show dominance and get an opportunity to mate.

10. Cuscus (Spilocuscus maculatus)

Cuscus is one of the animals with small ears that lives in Australia, Papua New Guinea and on the nearby islands. As of now, 23 species of cuscus has been identified that vary in size, color and type of habitat. The medium size animal species can grow between 14 to 26 inches in length and avarage wieght is between 3.3 to 13 pounds.  They  have a rounded head with small ears and large round eyes. The color of the eyes can be orange, red or yellow and designed specially for night vision. The avarage lifespan of Cuscus is upto 11 years in the wild.
