The tech launch season officially is in full swing and Apple revealed a number of new devices at the Far Out event. In total we got eight devices: Iphone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, Apple Watch SE second-gen, Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch Ultra, and AirPods Pro second-gen.
I’m cranking out hands-on with each and breaking down all the major news, but here we’re giving you the rundown on what you need to know. So let’s kick things off with Apple’s wildly popular earbuds.

AirPods Pro Second Generation: What You Should KnowJacob Klol/TheStreet
Apple’s new AirPods Pro don’t change much in the looks department, but they’re powered by the new H2 chip. It’s made by Apple (AAPL) and handles the connectivity, as well as the processing. Noise cancelation is improved across the board for blocking out sounds, and Apple says it’ll perform up to two times better at canceling than the original AirPods Pro. They’re also debuting a new Transparency mode which automatically adjusts the type of sounds, and the volumes that come through your ears.
You’ll still have the cushioned ear tips (XS, S, M, L) and a stem design, but the controls are upgraded as well. Force Sensor comes with a touch layer, which allows for easy volume adjustments. AirPods Pro can run for up to six hours with a single charge and as long as 30 hours with the case. You can charge it with a Lightning port or MagSafe charger. FindMy also supports this case. It has a speaker to ping and a place for the lanyard.
Apple is still experimenting with new ideas and the price of these products will remain at $249. They’ll be up for order on Sept. 9 and ship on Sept. 23. See our complete hands-on video.
Apple Watch SE Second Generation: What You Need To KnowJacob Klol/TheStreet
The Apple Watch SE is the most affordable smartwatch, and this second-generation version improves upon that. It’s cheaper at $249 for Bluetooth and $299 for Cellular, features the new S8 processor, and even has new sensors to detect a crash.
It is available in three different colors and has an aluminum body that is sustainable. It can handle activity monitoring and heart rate monitoring. With support for the new low power mode, it can run watchOS 9.

Apple Watch Series 8: What you Need to KnowJacob Krol/TheStreet
The Apple Watch Series 8 is an improvement on the Series 7. It retains the larger, always-on Retina display which is stretched to its edges. The Apple Watch Series 8 also features Blood Oxygen Monitoring, Heart Rate Tracking, ECG and the ability to track a variety of activities.
A temperature sensor, which allows new ovulation tracking and cycle tracking features for the Series 8, is new to the Series 8. Additional sensors onboard, as well as a bunch of work on Apple’s end, enable the ability to detect a crash accurately. The Series 8 will still have “all-day” battery life rated at 18 hours and supports fast charging. The Series 8 will still be able to track activity and has a low-power mode that will allow it to last for up 30 hours.
The Apple Watch Series 8 is available at a starting price of $399 for GPS and $499 to Cellular. It will still be available in a 42mm and 45mm size. It’s up for order now and will begin arriving to those who order on Sept. 16.

Apple Watch Ultra – What You Need To KnowJacob Krol/TheStreet
Alongside the iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic Island, the Apple Watch Ultra might be the most exciting new gadget. It’s a brand new Apple Watch, that’s extra durable and powerful for adventurers. It features a new design, made out of titanium, and a flat 49mm Always-On Retina screen. It also has a super bright screen of up to 2,000-nits and a variety of watch faces that display a lot more detail.
The more durable digital crown can be turned to make dark mode, which is a delight. This button is larger than usual, making it easier to click with gloves. On the right side, you can adjust the action button. This allows you to quickly track your workout. It’s powered by the S8 package, sports all the health sensors, and every feature from the Series 8. It’s larger, but also is surprisingly light and doesn’t really weigh down the wrist. It can also accommodate 45mm-sized watch bands without any problems.
Battery life can be extended by up to 36 hours for everyday use, and up to 60 hours when using low-power mode. You can also charge it quickly, so you can talk about battery life. The device also has two speakers and advanced microphones. The extended GPS functionality allows you to track a hike, and then have it automatically trace your steps back. The Apple Watch Ultra can operate in extreme temperatures.
All models of the Apple Watch Ultra cost $799 and come with Cellular + GPS functionality. You can see our full breakout here, and it’s up for order now with it beginning to arrive on Sept. 23.
iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus: What you need to know. The iPhone 14 looks very similar to the iPhone 13. It’s modern, rounded design and it looks sleek. It’s the mantra, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. There are a few new colors, including a lavender. Apple will not make a Mini 14. You can opt for the 6.1 inch 14 or the larger 6.7-inch 15 Max. The iPhone 4S is the larger screen iPhone.
These OLED displays are still available. It’s powered by an upgraded version of the A15 Bionic. It has an additional GPU core that should make it fast for almost any task. In our short hands-on, iOS 16 was flying on it. It’s also powering some camera advancements.
The new 12-megapixel ultra wide lens features a larger sensor and a photonic engine that produces more detailed images with better colors. There’s also a new action mode for videos which seems to make even the bumpiest of shots more stable.
The 14s also have all-day battery lives, with the 14 Plus offering the longest ever iPhone battery life. These also boast Satellite Connectivity to let you make emergency calls or texts even when you’re out of cellular service.

iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max: What you Need to KnowThe Dynamic Island is the coolest feature of the new iPhone 14 Pro Max and 14 Pro Max. Essentially the notch is now a long oval slightly lower and adjusted based on what you’re using. The notch can be used to hold the music player or to transform into a square to verify Face ID. It’s really cool and a bevy of applications will support this from the get-go.
The 6.1-inch and the 6.7-inch displays have a faster refresh rate, provide up to 2,000-nit of brightness, and make the bezels thinner. The always-on mode is also available, which is much more useful than Android phones because it dims everything. Live actions, widgets and wallpapers can be seen. There’s also an enhanced camera in the notch.
The rear features a 48 megapixel wide photo, 12-megapixel telephoto, as well as a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens. The camera can be used to shoot at 0.5x, 1x and 2x as well as 3x. All of these are powered by the A16 Bionic Chip, which represents a significant increase in the power of the display as well as the cameras.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max and 14 Pro Max are big leaps, even for those who already own the iPhone 13 Pro Max and 13 Pro Max. They’ll cost $1,099 and $1,199 and are up for preorder on Friday.
