Did You Know Farming Hemp Fiber Doesn’t Remove Food From The Supply Chain?

Did You Know Hemp Fiber Production Doesn’t Remove Food From The Supply Chain?

Hemp fiber production and secondary protein products

Heartland is one of the largest Hemp fiber producers in North America, and the largest hemp fiber producer in the US. What people don’t fully understand, is that during our farming process, we have an opportunity to harvest the grain off the top of our crop.

Much like wheat, hemp fiber has a seed Protein that is extremely nutritious.

This year, our team is on track to produce more than 2,000,000 lb of Hemp Seed for human consumption.

Using the same equipment to harvest wheat, we use combines to collect the hemp seed and have distribution partners we sell it to. This is an important part of our business because to sustainably grow hemp fiber, we cannot remove food from the supply chain.

As a foundation of our mission to become Earth’s most sustainable company, we have found a way to use every part of our crops to do better for our farmers, and the world.

What is Hemp Seed and why is it important?

Food is one of the most important parts of our society, and it is taken for granted every day.

At Heartland, we do not believe that being industrial farmers we must damage the land or remove food from the supply chain.

By harvesting our entire crop, we can empower a local farming community while practicing regenerative agricultural practices.

Benefits of hemp protein

Hemp protein is approximately 24% of the hemp seed by weight.

High Protein Content Per Serving

Hemp protein can have as much as 25g of protein per 33g serving. This is a concentration of protein not normally found in plant products.

All 9 Amino Acids

It is rare to see all 9 amino acids found naturally in a plant protein, or any protein for that matter. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins but also help improve absorption in the gut, making sure you get more of your money’s worth.

Full Micronutrient Profile

Hemp protein is jam-packed with Potassium, Magnesium, Iron, and other critical minerals. These micronutrients improve the absorption of protein in the body, improving muscle development.

Benefits of hemp oil

Hemp seed oil is approximately 35% of the hemp seed by weight and is almost 90% unsaturated fat. It is rare to find an oil with such a high concentration of healthy omega fats, a 2:1 omega 6 to omega 3 profile, which is considered the “golden ratio“.

Omega 3 Fatty Acid

Omega 3 is the main fatty acid in fish that provides a lot of benefits to the human body. Hemp seed oil has more omega 3 than fish and the omega 3 is in a more easily absorbed chemical composition.

Industrial Uses

Beyond food, hemp seed oil is known to have a substantial amount of double-bonds used in chemistry to develop sustainable plastic. We believe this is going to be a key ingredient for the future of regenerative chemistry.

Challenges hemp seed faces in the US

Hemp seed products have a long history of being extremely nutritious and healthy snacks, but there are a lot of restrictions on how these products can be used and sold.

The most important restriction is that hemp protein cannot be used as feed for animals. This is one of the few remaining problems associated with hemp protein due to the previous cannabis legislation.

So far, 4 states have taken it into their own hands to allow hemp protein to be used for animal feed, but the remaining 46 have not made any decisions and it has defaulted back to the federal standards.

Are hemp food products for me?

Hemp seed, protein, and oil are a healthy opportunity for anyone looking to introduce low carb, low sugar, healthy fats into their diet.

rahra is a food innovation company that develops products from hemp seed and has information that can help shed light on the impact of consuming hemp seed in your daily life.

They’re developing fun and engaging product lines, like the Protein Party products to educate consumers about the power of protein.
