A part of its Electric offensive, the Mercedes-Benz Rastatt plant in Germany will produce a new compact class EQ model.  More than ten new electric passenger cars are scheduled to be launched by 2022: in all segments from smart to large SUVs.  The first EQ series model – the EQC compact car will roll of the brands Bremen production line in 2019.

Mercedes are investing €10bn to expand its electric portfolio in the next few years, where electric cars are targeted to take 25% of overall sales. The new electric vehicles will be produced within a global network of plants on four continents allowing all markets to be reached.  To help with additional production capacity at the Rastatt site, the manufacturer is constructing two new body shops on the site, as well as a training centre.

Thanks to highly flexible structures, we are able to integrate electric vehicles in the regular series production in our plants. This allows us to benefit from the opportunities of electric mobility, while considerably reducing the required investment,”
