The state of the race

It’s been really difficult to watch this Election cycle. In all honesty, November 8 can’t get here soon enough. And that’s saying something, given how much of a political junkie I’ve been.

Because I’m literally swamped all the time, I get most of my news through Twitter. Which, it seems, is where most of the news media is getting theirs. It’s too funny Watching something show up on Twitter and then, two hours later, watching it show up on a news website. Or watching them read them on the air. Really, folks. How about some original reporting?

I’m getting hundreds – and that’s no exaggeration – of emails from campaigns – presidential, congressional, parties, conferences, hangers on – every day. Most are begging for money. Is it really necessary to send three or four requests every single day to every possible email address that you’ve recently purchased? Have the campaigns considered that something other than begging should be communicated to their supporters? How about a little policy?  Believe it or not, I can figure out for myself that Candidate A has done a bad thing. Is it really necessary to email me about it, in your latest ask for money?

Everything is negative. There is nothing positive. You’d think the sun hadn’t come up today.

It’s depressing.

Here’s what I know:

  • The contest for president is closer than most are willing to admit.
  • The U.S. will survive past November 8.
  • You attract more flies with honey than vinegar.
  • It’s still better to be above ground than below it.

Off to try to smell the roses. They are still blooming.
