A resolution introduced by Illinois State Representative Theresa Mah honoring Fred T. Korematsu passed the state House today by acclamation.

Theresa’s shepherding of the Korematsu resolution was unusual in its speed. Measures honoring individuals with days are usually referred to committees. The resolution was recorded as being introduced by Theresa and “all other Members of the House” – which includes the Republican members.

HR52 honors “the legacy of Fred Korematsu, his institute, and his children, who work so diligently to educate the public by encouraging schools and institutes of higher learning throughout the State of Illinois to incorporate the story of Fred Korematsu and his valiant stand for American values of justice into their curriculum.”

Prior to be elected to the Illinois state House, Theresa staffed for Gov. Pat Quinn, and was the driving force behind Gov. Quinn’s proclamation of Jan. 30 as Fred Korematsu Day in Illinois, the first time an Illinois governor recognized Korematsu.
