The United States Constitution does not give citizens the right to own firearms for hunting -
The 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution states -
"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed".
The Constitution gives citizens the right to bear arms so they may join a "well regulated militia" whose purpose is to keep a free state secure. Congress and State governments are not prohibited from passing laws to prevent individuals from using firearms for other purposes, such as hunting or jeopardizing the security of a free state.
Added note - "to keep a free state secure" also means to protect a free state from a tyrannical Government.
