For a while now it has become apparent that the Republicans were going to block military aid to Ukraine. It has been interesting to watch how the GOP has steadily transformed from a party that defaulted to militarism in defense of Democracy into a party whose default position is hostility to Democracy and sympathy to Putin's Russia. For a brief time in October I thought that the Democrats would be able to get Ukraine funding through by wrapping it together with aid to Israel (a country Republicans are still really gung-ho about aiding militarily. I guess all it takes is willingness to kill Arabs), but instead they were out maneuvered and the Republicans made the debate over a bundle of Ukrainian Aid and draconian changes to the immigration asylum system.
