Inauguration of Chenani-Nashri tunnel; PM Modi addressed public at Udhampur

The PM Modi today inaugurated the India's longest road tunnel, the Chenani-Nashri tunnel that costed 2,500 crore, 

A single-tube bi-directional tunnel, with a 9.35-metre carriageway, and also a vertical clearance of 5 metres are the key features of the Nashri tunnel. It also some smart features such as an Integrated Traffic Control System, Surveillance, Ventilation and the Broadcast Systems, Fire Fighting System and SOS call-boxes at the every 150 metres.

The PM Modi dedicated the tunnel to the nation in the presence of J&K Governor NN Vohra and the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

The half of the 9.2 km Nashri tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway has been built by Imran Beigh, a 36 year old Jammu based budding infrastructure businessman and his team in a short span of two years.

Attending the rally the PM Modi urges the attendees to switch on the flash of their phones and chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai. The PM Modi thanks the attendees to a resounding chant and the applause.

He said the tunnel is a big leap towards the development in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The Prime Minister Modi congratulates the Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari for having finished the tunnel construction on the time.

The PM Modi said to the youngsters of the Kashmir that on the one hand, there is som youngsters who pelt stones and on the other hand, there are the youngsters from the same society who are building the tunnels. The tunnel has been built by the yough of Jammu and Kashmir, says PM Modi.

This tunnel will improve the tourism in the state of Jammu and Kashmir and it is nothing less than a blessing for the J&K people, the PM Modi said.

Talking to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, the PM Modi said that you have two choices, On one side, you have tourism and on the otherside, you have terrorism.

The no one benefitted by terrorism but only bled Kashmir, the PM Modi said while asking the J&K youth to choose the tourism over the terrorism so that the state could achieve new heights.

PM Modi also invoked the the former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee's slogan of "Kashmiriyat, Jamhooriyat, Insaniyat" and also said that there will be the 'prime motto' in the moving ahead 'with the harmony, with brotherhood, with strong will and the determination for the brighter future of the youth' and no any obstacle can stop us.

The every Indian wants to see the Jammu and Kashmir. The beauty of this land can draw so many people. The tourism will also bring the economic growth of the Jammu and Kashmir, the PM Modi said and also congratulated the CM Mehbooba Mufti and her government for their efforts.

The Mehbooba asked, speaking before the PM Modi, the Prime Minister to give hope to the youth of the Kashmir about creating the New Jammu and Kashmir because the PM Modi is a 'courageous' leader who does whatever he decides.

The J&K CM also thanked the PM Modi for their support when the Jammu and Kashmir was unrest last year. Those who cross the border can't even take care of themselves, the PM Modi said while talking about unrest in Kashmir. If the youth of Kashmir forget the 'sufi culture tradition', the youth's future will push into darkness, the PM Modi said.

The PM Modi, along with the Governer and J&K CM, travelled through the tunnel in an open jeep for the some distance after the inauguration.

They also posed for a photograph with those engineers who were involved in the construction of the tunnel.
