Though there were various names, including the telecom minister Manoj Sharma, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, UP's BJP president Keshav Prasad Maurya and Yogi Adityanath, in the run for the CM post of the politically most crucial state of India.
But putting an end to this much anticipated Uttar Pradesh chief ministerial candidate, the BJP finally selected the Yogi Adityanath as the next Chief Minister of the Uttar Pradesh with two deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma

Yogi Adityanath, born on 5th June, 1972, is a fifth time Member of Parliament from the Gorakhpur constituency in the Uttar Pradesh. He has been representing the Gorakhpur as BJP MP since 1998. Following the death of his spiritual guru Mahant Avaidyanath in the September 2014, he became the Mahant of the Gorakhnath Mutt, a Hindu Temple situated in Gorakhpur. The 'Hindu Yuva Vahini', which is a social, cultural and the nationalist group of the youth, has also been founded by Yogi Adityanath that aims to provide the rightist Hindu platform.
Adityanath is a B.Sc graduate from the H.N.B. Garhwal University. He is the successor of the former Hindu Mahasabha president Mahant Avaidyanath at the Gorakhnath temple. In the 12th Lok Sabha, he was one of the youngest member of parliament at the age of 26. He has been elected as the Member of Parliament from the Gorakhpur in the year 1998, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
He is also famous for the some major controversies and derogatory remarks on the various sensitive issues like caste and religion. Adityanath has been well know for his Hindutva hardliner image due to the his controversial remarks on the country's sensitive issue. In fact he don't hesitate to make that kind of remarks be it caste or religion or Ram Mandir or Love Jehad or Conversion, etc if he finds any chance.
Many altercation had occured with the Muslim during a Muharram procession in the Gorakhpur which led to the high tensions. In such kind of altercation in which a young Hindu had hospitalised and latter died in January 2007 after tensions during Muharram.
