The near about 36 passengers killed and over 50 injured when the Hirakhand Express, coming from Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh to Bhubneshwar in Odisha, derailed near the station Kuneru Railway station in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh late on Saturday, night around 11.20 pm, when the train was passing by Kuneru railway station.
The seven coaches comprising the luggage van, two general compartments, two sleeper coaches, an AC three-tier coach and an AC two-tier coach and also the engine were derailed. While four coaches fell on an adjacent goods train, the two sleeper coaches and a general coach were crushed completely.
According to JP Mishra, chief public relation officer, East Coast Railway, the rescue operation has been almost over.
The injured have been shifted to Parvathipuram and Raigarh government hospitals.
Mishra also said that the reason for the derailment would be investigated, we cant't rule out the foul play possibilities. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has expressed grief over the Incident and also announced compensation of Rs.2 lakh for the relatives of the deceased and Rs.50,000 for the critically injured, Rs.25,000 for those with non-fatal injuries.
Many of the trains had to be diverted because of Vijayanagaram-Singhpur route had been blocked with debris of the ill-fated train.
The PM Narendra Modi have also condoled the loss of lives in this accident, in his tweet he said: "My thoughts are with those who lost their loved ones in the derailment of the Jagdalpur-Bhubneshwar Express. The tragedy is saddening".

Thousand of people lost their lives yearly in India due to train incident, why not the railway ministry make a well planned strategy to avoid the train incident and assured the people to their safety and security.
It seems that the ministry has not taking these type of incident seriously and he is just announcing compensation after the incident.
When the government can announce the demonetisation to curb the black money and corruption in the country, then why not the railway ministry assure the travellers for their safety and security and also securing the railway property.
