The Supreme Court of India ruled on Monday that if any candidate seeking votes in the name of religion, Caste, race, community or language, his agent or anyone with his consent that would be a corrupt electoral practice and that render the person open to disqualification.
The Supreme Court order, which some of the political and official sources felt that it would be limited utility in a country teeming with parties appealing to regional, caste-based and community identities, widened the scope of Section 123(3) of the Representation of the People Act in order to "maintain the purity of the electoral process".
The court also said, if any religious leader made an appeal to his community to vote for any candidate and if it is established that the religious leader has made appeal with the consent of the candidate, the candidate could be disqualified. The provision under Section 123(3) provides for disquaalification, if a candidate or his agent or anyone who appeals to the voters in the religion, caste, race, language or community of the candidate.
The caste, religion,community,language based politics is the main problem in India, which is used as vote bank in the indian politics, this has not started today but it is has started after independance of India. The caste, religion,community,language based politics has helped the political parties to seek votes and so called dirty politics. The political parties must avoid to use caste, religion and community to do dirty politics to divide the society.
