Jayalalithaa, the iconic Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu passed away

The Iconic Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, who reached a high status from cinema to politics among her followers, who had became the master in the art of comeback in power despite electoral and legal setbacks passed away tonight after battling for her life from 2 and half month.




According to Apollo Hospitals, she was being administered on resuscitation(CPR) and ECMO(extra corporeal membrane heart assist device) support after the cardiac arrest. ECMO, available internationally, is the most advanced treatment facility. The Apollo said that every possible attempt had made to sustain the revival of CM. Despite our best efforts the CM's conditions was unable to recover and she passed away at 11:30 pm today.

The Apollo hospitals family, the clinicians, the nursing and the paramedical staff, have tried hard to provide the best standards of care and had worked tirelessly using our clinical and technological resources at our best with the healing spirit and compassion which will inspires us always.

On Monday the whole day, Tamil Nadu was waiting for any word on her health status from Apollo Hospital. Later when Jaya TV, broadcaster of ruling AIADMK and some other Tamil networks reported that the CM had passed away, the emotions ran high and confusion prevailed across the state in the afternoon, around 5.30 pm.

As the people started wept, the police fought back crowds surging towards the hospital. The party flag of AIADMK at headquarters in Royapettah was immediately lowered to half-mast. But later when the Apollo Hospitals said that she was still alive, her condition critical, the flag had later raised to full-mast.

Later within hours, the road from Apollo to her house was ringed by security personnel and police fanned out across the city preparing for her last journey back home.

A host of leaders including President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, vice president Rahul, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and a number of film personalities expressed grief over her death.

Jayalalithaa’s body was buried at Marina beach.

The party has announced senior AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam as the successor of the AIADMK and the new Tamil Nadu chief minister. He has sworn in after midnight by Governor Vidyasagar Rao at Raj Bhawan in the presence of party leaders..
