The Praja Rajyam (PR) will concentrate on enrolling college students as Voters. The PR leader, Mr B. Ra-vindra Kumar, told newsmen here on Monday that nearly 34 lakh students did not have the right to vote in the state. In East Godavari alone the number was nearly three lakh, he added.

In an attempt to help students get enrolled as voters, the PR founder Chiranjeevi had set up a graduate society to help students get registered. He said that 17,500 members had joined this society whose only responsibility was to enrol students as voters.

The PR leader said that they had set a target of enrolling one lakh students as voters in East Godavari by the end of December. Mr Ravindra Kumar said that the issue was taken to the notice of the chief electoral officer in the state and added that they had submitted a representation to election authorities to extend the enrolment schedule as well as registration of students as voters, based on the confirmation issued by the college principal, instead of insisting on residential proof.

He said that the election authorities had responded positively to the proposals. He said that the PR is going to enrol 1.90 lakh aged and 2.85 lakh beggars as voters in the state.
