Canada Must End Public Financing For Fossil Fuels

Last November, 35 Countries and Four Public Finance Institutions, signed a Joint Statement, pledging to End International Public Finance of Oil, Gas, and Coal, by the end of 2022.

Dubbed the Glasgow Statement on Public Finance, this Policy could Eliminate more than $24 billion a year in Oil, Gas, and Coal, Financing from Signatory Countries.

Yet among the Signatories is Canada, and as a recent Report reveals, Canada provided over $11 billion per year in Public Finance for Fossil Fuels from 2018 to 2020.

The Federal and Provincial Governments spend about $5 billion more every year, on direct Oil and Gas Subsidies, through things like Tax Breaks and Project Handouts.

Right now, the Canadian Government is reviewing its Annual Federal Lending Policy.

There must be a Clear Message, that the 2022 Federal Budget, must include Ending Subsidies and other Public Finance for Fossil Fuels.
