The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced they are Pausing the LaGuardia AirTrain at Gov. Hochul’s (D) request, as the Agency examines Alternative Mass Transit Options to the Queens Airport.

“The agency will work in close consultation with independent experts and stakeholders, and will complete its work as expeditiously as possible, consistent with the need for the review to be thorough and rigorous,” Port Authority Officials said in aSstatement. “During the review, the Port Authority will pause further action with respect to the LaGuardia AirTrain project.”

Gov. Hochul had asked the Port Authority, on Oct. 4th, to consider Different Visions for the LGA AirTrain, other than the One Approved for Construction over the summer, by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The proposed LGA AirTrain is Designed as an Elevated Line in Willets Point, Queens, Connecting LaGuardia Airport with the 7 Train, and the Long Island Rail Road.

It promises a 30-minute Link between Midtown and the much-maligned Airport.

But Opponents, such as Senate Deputy Majority Leader Mike Gianaris, (D-12th District), and Sen. Jessica Ramos (D-13th District), have questioned the Project’s $2.1B Billion Cost, its proposed Route, and the impact Construction would have on Queens Neighborhoods.

The Port Authority and FAA were Sued on Sept. 20th, by Local Community and Environmental Groups, who claimed the Federal Authorities Illegally Approved the Rail Project.

The Port Authority did Not give a Timetable for their Review of Alternative Transportation Options.
