Civil Rights Organization Files Lawsuit Over IA’s New Voting Law

Late Monday afternoon, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) signed Legislation that Shortens Early Voting period from 29 days to 20 and Closes Polls an hour Earlier at 8 p.m.

The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) of Iowa, filed a Lawsuit Tuesday Challenging the Bill they say is Voter Suppression.

The Suit Claims the New Law Violates the Iowa Constitution and will "impose burdens on voters generally, with particularly severe impacts on the right to vote for minority voters, elderly voters, rural voters, young voters, poor voters, new voters, and voters with disabilities.”

Reynolds argues the Measure promotes Transparency and Accountability.

Reynolds said in a statement, “This legislation strengthens uniformity by providing Iowa's election officials with consistent parameters for Election Day, absentee voting, database maintenance, as well as a clear appeals process for local county auditors."

Iowa is one of several Republican-controlled States tightening Voting Laws due to what they call a Distrust in the System.

Much of the Distrust stems from Trump's numerous False Claims of Widespread Voter Fraud.

A Republican Proponent of this Bill previously Acknowledged that the 2020 Election went smoothly in Iowa, with Record Turnout and No Evidence of Fraud.
