New York State Democrats looking to throw their Political Weight around in the upcoming 2020 Presidential Race have set a late Date for the State Primary.

By Scheduling the Election on April 28th, 2020, the State not only forces the 20-plus-Candidate Field to Campaign Hard for Empire State Votes Deep into Race, it also Boosts the Number of Delegates for the National Convention a Month and a Half later, according to State Democratic Committee Chairman Jay Jacobs.

“The benefit of that is with so many candidates running, it’s going to take a while to whittle it down to a front-runner," he said. “Putting the primary in April will give New York a great opportunity to impact that process.”

Under the National Party Rules, New York gets more Delegates from 246 to 327, plus 46 Super Delegates who can't Vote on the First Convention Ballot, for a Total of 373 Delegates, for Delaying its Election and holding it on the Same Day as: Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Rhoda Island. Only California, with 495 Delegates, has more.

“Anything could happen. The nominee could be decided on Super Tuesday, but I don’t think so. I think this could be a vigorous campaign. Getting 50% plus one is going to be difficult to get early.” Jacobs said.
