In 2017, President Trump's Decision to Shrink the Bears Ears National Monument, leaving 85% of the Land Unprotected and Vulnerable to Destructive Mining, Drilling, and Extinction, sparked a Number of Lawsuits that are Working their way through the Judicial system.

Reps. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ, 7th District) and Deb Haaland (D-MN, 21st District) aren't waiting on Che courts to Overturn Trump, they've Re-Introduced the Bears Ears Expansion and Respect for Sovereignty Act of 2019 (H.R. 4518).

The Legislation would not only Protect the Original Land previously Designated by President Obama but also Expand Bears Ears to the full 1.9 Million Acres that Local American Indian Tribes sought to Include within the Monument in order to Protect Tens of Thousands of Cultural Artifacts and Sites the Natives consider Sacred.

Under the current Administration, Public Lands have been Gutted in a shameless Giveaway to the Oil and Gas Industry. At the same time, American Indians are facing Attacks on their Sovereignty, and on-going Genocide.

The Bears Ears National Monument Act is a promise to fully Protect the Hundreds of Thousands of Sacred and important Objects and Places found in the Region, and to Honor the Traditions and Culture of the People that have called Bears Ears Home for Millennia. Preserving it for Future Generations is our Moral Responsibility.

The Hopi Nation, Ute Indian Tribe, Mountain Ute Tribe, and Zuni Tribe, support the Legislation. They are joined by more than 70 Co-Sponsors in Congress and numerous Advocacy Groups, including: Sierra Club, Natural Resources Defense Council, Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, Earthjustice, League of Conservation Voters, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and many more.

Bears Ears National Monument is a National Treasure and Sacred Site that must be Preserved for Future Generations. Congress should take Action Permanently Safeguard it.
