The Real ID Act in 2018

The Real ID Act is an Act of Congress that Modifies U.S. Federal Law pertaining to Security, Authentication, and Issuance Procedures Standards for State Drivers' Licenses and Identity Documents, as well as various Immigration Issues pertaining to Terrorism.

The Law sets forth Requirements for State Drivers' Licenses and ID Cards to be accepted by the Federal Government for "Official Purposes", as defined by the Secretary of the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The Secretary of Homeland Security has defined "Official Purposes" as Boarding Commercially operated Airline Flights, and entering Federal Buildings and Nuclear Power Plants, although the Law gives the Secretary the Unlimited Authority to Require a "Federal Identification" for any other Purposes.

Starting January 22nd, 2018, Passengers with a Driver's License issued by a State that is still Not Compliant with the REAL ID Act, and has not been Granted an Extension, will need to Show an Alternative Form of Acceptable Identification for Domestic Air Travel to Board their Flight.

Starting October 1st, 2020, every Air Traveler will need a REAL ID-compliant Driver License, or another Acceptable Form of Identification like a Passport, for Domestic Air Travel.

Currently when you Register to Vote, you Sign an Affidavit, I Swear or Affirm that:

• I am a citizen of the United States.
• I will have lived in the county, city or village for at least 30 days before the election.
• I meet all requirements to register to vote in the State.
• This is my signature or mark in the box below.
• The above information is true, I understand that if it is not true, I can be convicted and fined up to $5,000 and/or jailed for up to four years.

But States that start using the Real ID License or ID Card, will Require Proof of Citizenship to Register to Vote.
