Medicare for All Caucus in U.S. House of Representatives

Up until relatively recently, anyone who called for Medicare for All was laughed out of the room in D.C. Now that landscape has changed.

Now more than 75% of Democratic Voters are supporting it.

But now a Majority of House Democrats and 2020 Presidential Frontrunners are supporting the idea that Health Care should be a Right for All Americans.

The truth is, this battle will be far from easy. The Insurance and Pharmaceutical Companies will stop at nothing to maintain their grip on Congress.

But in 2018, Hundreds of Progressive Candidates is ready to take on any Big-Money Challenge they face.

A Group of House Democrats, totaling at least 70 Members, Signed onto the establishment of a Medicare for All Caucus, signaling the increasing feasibility of the Policy among Members.

The Caucus, Co-Chaired by Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA, 37th District), Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN, 5th District), and Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI, 12th District,), is intended to help “build the evidence base” for a Medicare for All Proposal, Jayapal said at a Press Conference announcing the formation of the Group. “Our goal is to sponsor briefings in this caucus on a variety of topics from the basics of Medicare for All to financing to universal health care systems around the world,” Jayapal continued.

The Members who have Signed on to the Caucus represent a wide swath of the United States, including more Senior Members and some fresher faces. And already more than a Third of all House Democrats have Signed on to Join.

Those names include: Freshman Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA, 17th District); Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA, 13th District), a stalwart Progressive who has been discussed as a possible next Speaker of the House; and Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH, 13th District), who previously challenged Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA, 12th District) for House Minority Leadership.

The original United States National Health Care Act, or the Expanded and Improved Medicare for All Act (H.R. 676), is a Bill introduced in the United States House of Representatives by Representative John Conyers (D-MI, 13th District). The Bill had 49 Cosponsors in 2015.

In addition to this Caucus, there already exists Legislation in the House to establish a Medicare for All system, with 122 Co-Sponsors signed on. Over on the Senate side, Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) Medicare for All Bill has the Sponsorship of at least a Third of Senate Democrats. Sanders' Plan is a "Single-Payer" Plan. That means the Government will be the "Single Payer" on any Health Expenses. It would greatly Expand the Type of Coverage offered and also eliminate Deductibles, Copays, and Premiums. Private Insurance Companies are currently a part of the Medicare System. That wouldn't be the Case under Sanders' Plan.
