Maine has a choice to make!

Is the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (Actually the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency) really what Mainers want?

Who made the Federal bureau of the Drug Enforcement Agency into todays “Maine Drug Enforcement Agency”
I expect that the organization knew full well years ago that their budgets were doomed to run out and they started carefully infiltrating Maine and other states so that when the time came Maine citizens would openly endorse fully funding them. After all there part of the “Maine Department of Public Safety” They must be the good guys right?

While snuggling in with the Department of Public Safety they hide there major task of Illegal Drug eradication behind socially conscious tasks such as old Pharmaceutical disposal and the such.

There primary goal is Illegal Drug Eradication. Supposedly in transactions of an international level and primarily against the key constituents of major drug organizations.
I personally believe the main reason we have a DEA in Maine is to fight the grassroots reasoning that lead to our Medical Marijuana initiative. But please formulate your own opinion.

George W. Bush is cutting there funding and the DEA is begging Mainers to pay there way into our State. To the tune of millions annually.
The Question remains…are they really Mainers? And Should we totally fund there efforts based on what the Government feels is correct for Marijuana. Even in the face of over half of the Maine voters having un-reconcilable differences in there over all philosophies? Just on the Medical Marijuana issues alone. Not to even mention the Hemp issues and the Government perspective.

Or should Mainers choose to not fund them because of the beliefs of Maine citizens that Marijuana might not be the scourge of society the government would have you believe? Mainers seem solid in there belief that not only is Marijuana used today for medical reasons, but also that it should not be a criminal act in and of itself. As witnessed thru Maine having some of the lightest penalties on Marijuana possession in the country. Including the decriminalization of personal amounts.
Something most states have yet to consider seriously.

A fact still disputed by the DEA on there web site where they claim Maine has some of the harshest penalties for Marijuana in the country which forces Mainers outside there own state to places like Canada to get there Marijuana.
A prophecy that the DEA in its erradication efforts has tried to self fulfill here in Maine.

The Question must be answered because the two perspectives are dynamically different and if Maine funds the DEA here they are also adopting the ideals and draconian principals that the Government refuses to let go of. As evidenced by the Supreme courts ruling recently. And the actions of the DEA here in Maine over this past year.
The federal government doesn’t want to fund them why should we?

Is the DEA and there federal ideals really what Maine wants?

The DEA believes in the governments stance on Marijuana. From the draconian sentences, where they give life in prison to some persons with Marijuana charges. And the commited belief that Marijuana is highly addictive and has no medicinal use.
To there full scale war on the world as evidenced thru many countries being forced to follow our government even when they don’t feel it’s the right thing by trade embargo’s, and shifty international trade laws that include drug use criterion.
Look at the DEA dealings of Marc Emery in Vancover Canada.
Didn’t the views of our government on foreign trade leave thousands of Maine citizens without jobs here at home?

DEA says any citizen using any amount of Marijuana is an addict that needs to be incarcerated (unless there a politician) or barter for drug treatment because they cannot afford the fines, or cant do the time in jail because there families will suffer more.

The DEA will never believe that there is any medicinal use for Marijuana. It cripples the federal case that Marijuana is a dangerous Narcotic with no medicinal use. And loosens the tie they have with the public and cuts support for there funding.

Are the DEA really needed over and above our own local and State law enforcement?

Maine law enforcement made 4877 drug related arrests in 2002.
Out of these arrests 3422 were Marijuana related.

In 2002, 109 out of the total 4877 arrests were made by the DEA.

The DEA is concerned with there funding, they have shown an eagerness to forfeit accused property when local law Enforcement might not in the same circumstances.

The local law enforcement knows their populations. They understand the needs of the woman with cancer over on the other side of town and are apt to look away if they noticed her medical plants out back. The DEA would not know this woman, they would not care. She would of course be brought in by a DEA swat team clothed in kevlar and wielding assault rifles.

Do the DEA really have Mainers interests at heart?

I remember way back when the DEA’s mission statement was to take out big drug cartels, and stop international drug trafficking.

Now it seems the DEA’s mission statement has been modified to allow them access to every day citizens like many Maine people. And to promote international drug trafficking.

“ Coordination and cooperation with federal, state, and local agencies, and with foreign governments, in programs designed to reduce the availability of illicit abuse-type drugs on the United States market through nonenforcement methods such as crop eradication, crop substitution, and training of foreign officials.”

This quote from the DEA mission statement is the change in there policy. Now they can take our States military forces that we all pay for. Use them at there own discretion. Against Maine citizens and I am assuming they do not need to account for any of there actions at a state level. I can only guess that the ‘nonenforcement’ part is to imply they do these things with no negative effect on the State or local community? But you be the judge!

Should all Maine Citizens using Marijuana be hunted down and incarcerated, as the DEA mission states?

100,000 maine citizens do not have health care…
approximately 100,000 Maine citizens use Marijuana weekly.
Coincidence….maybe..but what about the tens of thousands of Mainers that do use Marijuana as a pain reducer of sorts…should they be hunted down and put in jail at the taxpayers expense because they cant afford the expensive insurance companies fees for prescription drugs, or there not lucky enough like some of us to have health care provided by our employment? Or they don’t qualify for social aid. Or they just prefer to use Marijuana.

Do Mainers think its morally correct to hunt down a tenth of our own population so that some businesses will get richer. Or so that some federal agency will be adopted by our own State and a few Law enforcement officials will keep there jobs?

How many of those thousands of Mainers who are growing for their own medical use lost there medicine for the year ahead? I have to wonder. How many of these individuals had there plants taken from them this past summer? With the DEA’s ‘snatch and grab’ Champaign?
There hasn’t been any progress made in providing to these Mainers the medication they and most of the state of Maine agreed they deserve.
What about them? It’s the DEA’s and the government who have stoped any progress here as well.

If you adopt the DEA you also adopt there philosophies on drug use in general. Forget about medical Marijuana!

Is the DEA good for Maines Economy?

The DEA’s Marijuana eradication efforts in my opinion are misguided and wrong for Maine. But you decide for yourselves what you think.

At the cost of thousands of man hours and hundreds of thousands of dollars. The DEA have self admittedly taken thousands of Marijuana plants from local gardeners all across the State in a militia style Champaign using our own State of Maine National Guard and there expensive helicopters. (of course this is probably happening in every state that approved Medical Marijuana).

This extraordinary effort on the DEA’s part, an effort far surpassing any previous efforts on there part is an obvious attempt to get the State to approve a new funding initiative.
A funding source that fully pays for the DEA here in Maine next year when the government stops paying their checks. Some Mainers will agree this is a good thing! But is it?…

The DEA have made claim

http://www.wcsh6.com/home/article.asp?id=26157

“The drug agency says it is continuing to crack down on marijuana-growing operations because the people involved in the business have become more violent and territorial in recent years.”

http://morningsentinel.mainetoday.com/news/local/1949461.shtml/

"We're out looking for drug dealers. If we can take some of their blood money away from them, then all the better.”

They make these claims to incite the general public when in fact they offer no evidence of any violence from Marijuana farmers at all. I’m sure if any incident had occurred they would be the first to report it!
They want you to believe that these farmers are nasty drug dealers and there money is causing Maine people serious harm. But I for one Mainer fail to see where there has been any harm but for the DEA’s actions on Maine citizens.

For every thousand plants they removed and burned, there are tens of thousands of Maine citizens waiting to buy them. You might say well who cares there all criminals anyway.
But upon closer inspection you might realize that those tens of thousand of Mainer’s are spending there money on this Marijuana.

No matter what the DEA does these Mainers are going to buy there normal supply or as close to there normal supply as they can no matter what that is per individual it still adds up to millions of dollars being spent across the state over the next year. Probably more like tens of millions but there are no real records of this market.

The main difference here is if John Smith down the street sells these Mainers there supply of Marijuana he grew himself, he is much more likely to also spend those dollars in his local community. Where conversely if he had to buy his Marijuana from Canada for example, like what will happen this next year because of the DEA, then the bulk of the moneys he brought in locally go outside the country to Canada.
Which way do you think is best for Maine’s economy?
How many millions of dollars will go to Canada that would have stayed right here?

How many Maine citizens had there small personal gardens taken and will not be able to buy Marijuana because there poor and will go thru this next year in pain or decide instead to use alcohol or illegal prescription drugs which are famous for being much worse both to the individual and to society? How many of these Mainers does it take to make it a moral outrage? Do you think the DEA cares about these Mainers?

Do the DEA’s and the governments facts about rehab numbers mean anything?

The Government likes to point to the fact that drug addiction counceling for Marijuana is way up. They are trying to say that many more citizens are becoming addicted to Marijuana. But do these rehab numbers and statistics mean what they are saying they mean?
And who is getting rich off these rehab laws?

Marijuana addiction that has been shown from many well respected research studies that prove that Marijuana Addiction as most Maine citizens know is at its worse much less than say cigarette addiction. But just the same we are increasingly filling our rehab centers with these people because it keeps the wheels of justice running, and some people are getting rich. Just not Mainers.

These rehab numbers are being thrown around by the DEA as the indicators of the problem that exists in drug abuse today…I personally believe it’s the abuse of companys using our federal tax dollars to milk us out of our hard earned money.
Laws used in thousands of new drug courts across the country mandate drug addiction treatment for most drug offenders. In many cases I would bet that there is a choice of go to jail or drug treatment. Which would you choose even if you arent addicted. The arrestee probably thinks there getting a great deal. Till they go to find a job with a drug addict label.

Some of the core Drug rehab centers are run by companies like Narconon an organization which is owned and run by the cult of Scientology.

These Scientologists where kicked out of the school system in Calif. For teaching the principals of there belief systems to children. And I think the whole country of Germany. They are not ones to believe when it comes to Drug use maintanance. IMO. Look for yourselves, do a search for Maine Drug Rehab on the internet and half the sites lead you to Narconon. Its in my opinion a very evil system that is being used in all the states by our government. And paid for by our tax dollars.

These people are getting rich on tax dollars as our government forces everyday citizens thru drug rehab for

These are all fair questions to ask yourself before deciding to adopt the DEA into Maine. If you didn’t answer yes to all of these questions then you should oppose the adoption of the DEA into Maine. And rely on local law Enforcement to do there jobs as they have in the past.

If you now feel that maybe the DEA isn’t right for Maine you must contact your local and state representatives…

And tell them that its your honest belief that Maine can do without the DEA we will count on our competent local Law Enforcement instead.

Tell them that you don’t think taking funding from schools or State infrastructure is wise to fund the failed policies of the Drug War here in Maine when we Mainers have repeatedly stated that we think its too harse. It just doesn’t make sense.
