This is good news for Malaysians as Google Cloud infrastructure will be built in our country (like finally)! Google has announced plans to introduce three additional cloud regions in the Asia-Pacific region. Malaysia will be one of the three new regions, along with Thailand and New Zealand. It was not specified where exactly the Google Cloud regions will be situated or when they will become operational.

Google Cloud Infrastructure Will Be Built in Malaysia

I believe that this Google Cloud Infrastructure will be built in Cyberjaya, which is Malaysia's version of Silicon Valley. Hundreds if not thousands of new job opportunities will be created with the advent of this Google Cloud infrastructure. When this occurs, Google's total number of Cloud regions will reach 37. However, 11 of the existing 34 are already located in Asia-Pacific.

There are 34 Google Cloud Infrastructures in The World

For the uninitiated, a cloud computing region is a particular location where customers of a service provider can deploy their own cloud resources. This will assist clients in maintaining low latency, high security, data residency, and compliance criteria. In other words, cloud computing is essential in the future!

According to Google's announcement, the Asia-Pacific region is a very active market for cloud computing. The company cites an IDC forecast that regional spending on cloud services, excluding Japan, will increase to US$282 million (RM1.257 billion) by 2025. IDC Asia Pacific's Research Director for Cloud Services and Software Research, Daphne Chung, is quoted as adding that the new Google Cloud regions will "allow additional chances for digital transformation and innovation" in the region.

Will Cloud Computing Be The Biggest Cash Cow?

Those who have already invested in the cloud computing industry are probably not surprised by any of this information. Microsoft has plans to expand its Azure cloud service to Malaysia, Indonesia, New Zealand, and Taiwan. Google currently operates cloud regions in Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, China, India, Japan, and Korea.

What Cloud Service are You Using?

Amazon Web Services is another well-known cloud provider. Channel Asia reports that the corporation only has outposts in Malaysia and Thailand. The corporation had previously declared its intention to establish cloud zones in Australia, India, and Indonesia, in addition to other regions outside of Asia Pacific. Any idea when will our very own Malaysian Google Cloud infrastructure will be built? How about next year-2023?
