Vivo X Fold-The Company's First Foldable Smartphone

Following multiple leaks over the last few weeks, Vivo has finally introduced the X Fold, the company's very first foldable smartphone. Finally, Vivo has jumped on the bandwagon,  joining other big Chinese smartphone brands, including Huawei, OPPO, and HONOR who have all unveiled their very own foldable smartphones. I believe all smartphone manufacturers will have their own foldable devices in the future.

Vivo X Fold-The Company's First Foldable Smartphone

As with Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 3, the new smartphone has a standard display on the exterior and a tablet-sized folding display inside. The external display is a huge 6.53-inch 120Hz OLED panel. On the inside, the foldable display is an even bigger 8.03-inch 120Hz LTPO OLED display panel. I bet watching dramas and movies using the gigantic screen will be a visual blast! Vivo has claimed that the inner, foldable screen will be shielded by ultra-thin durable glass. Time will tell if the protective glass will break under pressure.

Foldable Smartphones Will Be Mainstream Now!

To facilitate the use of all sides of the Vivo X Fold, the company has included an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner on both displays. Yes! So you can securely unlock your smartphone on any of the displays. I reckon this is really a nifty and thoughtful touch. Not to mention, the device's hinge is rated to withstand up to 300,000 folds in various lab tests. If you were to unfold it like 300 times a day, the Vivo X Fold could potentially be used for up to 1,000 days for around 2 and a half years.

Can be folded and unfolded 300,000 times

Under the hood, the Vivo X Fold is powered by Qualcomm's latest flagship chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. It is complemented by a standard 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage with no microSD card slot available. This is a deal-breaker for me as I have always believed that external storage is essential for any mobile device. The Vivo X Fold is powered by a 4,600mAh battery and supports cable charging at 66W, wireless charging at 50W, and reverse wireless charging at 10W.

Vivo X Fold is Equipped With Zeiss Cameras

If you are into photography, this new foldable smartphone from Vivo features a quad-camera array that comprises ZEISS optics, a 50MP primary sensor, a 48MP ultra-wide camera, an 8MP periscope telephoto lens, and another 12MP telephoto lens. Additionally, there are two 16MP punch-hole selfie cameras situated on the right side of the folding display and in the external display's top centre section.

Capture Anything Easily With Vivo X Fold

Vivo X Fold supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC connectivity. Pre-installed with Vivo's in-house OriginOS Ocean, a custom version of Android 12, expect a buttery smooth user experience. The X Fold features stereo speakers but is devoid of a 3.5mm audio connection.

What's The Price of Vivo X Fold?

The Vivo X Fold is available in blue and black colour options and is reportedly priced at RM5,999 for the 256GB variant and RM6,699 for the 512GB model. For the time being, it will be marketed exclusively in China, and the company has not yet revealed intentions to expand into international markets. When do you think it will arrive in Malaysia?
