Virtual Wedding-A First In Malaysia Thanks to JAWI

They say when you love someone you will go the distance just to be there next to the person to tie the knot. We have seen how lovers overcome flood to get wedded. Now Malaysians can get married legally despite being trapped in their very own homes. How? Online Wedding of course. Enter Malaysia's FIRST Virtual Wedding which was officiated lawfully by JAWI (The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department). The very first online "Akad Nikah" in Malaysia took place on the 18th of April despite the quarantine that we are all in due to Covid-19 virus!

This one of its kind (so far) virtual wedding took place with the bride, Nahdatul Aishah Mohd Sharif (29) at her home in Bandar Baru Wangsa Maju, Setapak while the groom, Muhammad Don Haadi Don Putra (29) was in his abode in Setiawangsa. The 'wali' or guardian of the wedding was the bride's father. Being the very first virtual wedding in Malaysia, it was broadcast live on Berita Al-Hijrah's Facebook page while being witnessed by JAWI director Mohd Ajib Ismail as well as the Minister of Religious Affairs Datuk Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri.

It is reported that virtual marriage is happening in other countries as well

It was claimed that the virtual wedding was conducted in accordance with a JAWI ruling. This has given lovebirds the chance to obtain their Marriage Permit via a marriage video conference. This goes to show that it is possible to tie the knot even during this movement control order lockdown as long as rules are observed and of course the groom utters the correct required phrases. Ha 😁

I wonder if marriages for different races are possible as well in Malaysia?

Then again the lockdown (hopefully) is ending soon in Malaysia on the 28th of April. So it is better to wait for the quarantine period is over to meet your soul mate in the flesh while saying the life-changing "I do". In the meantime, for those who can no longer wait, you can always solemnize your marriage right now, virtually of course. Do not let anything to stop your unison with your beloved one even during this lockdown!

P.S.: Elsewhere in New York, you can also officially get married via zoom. Guess virtual wedding is really the "in" thing right now.
