Q93.completed my engineering in electronics with agg of 78 from NIT, Allahabad in 2005 and have got 1.5 year of work experience in Motorola (mostly as applicaion tester). But i wanna pursue MS in VLSI. my GRE score is 1320(800/520). What are my chances of getting into a reputed institute in US? what are the colleges i should target for the same and chance of getting aids?Apart from US, where else can i consider for pursuing MS in VLSI, with good future prospects?
is this GRE score okay or should i consider retaking it? Please suggest.

thanx in advance..
uttam

A93.Your GRE score seem to be OK, however it may not be competitive in the top colleges. You can still apply to some reputed colleges like RPI, Virginia tech, Georgia Tech etc. US is the best destination in terms of VLSI so I would suggest you concentrate there. Refer to http://www.manyaeducation.com/universities_abroad/university.php?country=USA for a listing so you may shortlist a few.

Q92.phD in marketing
hi
i read through a couple of schools that said their b school programs needed a gmat. so i ve booked that for next month. now i see gre a lot more common. could someone please tell me if a gmat would be a disadvantage for a phD in marketing?
also please share the usual gmat score necessary to get into a good enough school (im looking at Warton and the likes)

A92.Usually GMAT is not required for PhD unless its specified. In case where it is; you must give GMAT. GRE is a standard requirement for MS and PhD. I don't think taking GMAT would be a disadvantage in any way. Top colleges are looking for 1520+/1600. I recommend you refer to http://www.manyaeducation.com/programs_and_careers/ms_phd/programs_ms_phd_articles.php to get a hang of PhD program in general.

- Work experience: 2 years as a Quantitative Analyst in the Economics Research Team in a stock brokers firm. Last 2 years as a Project Manager in the Structured Products Department in Colombia's largest commercial bank.

A91.You have an impressive portfolio, however your challenge lies in presenting your application and achievement in the best possible way you can. I don't think you require GMAT(unless you are trying for an MBA). I recommend you visit http://www.manyaeducation.com/programs_and_careers/ms_phd/programs_ms_phd_articles.php ofr ino. on PhD.

Q90.chools that require the GRE subject test?

A 84.Hello, I would suggest doing a MS in Biotechnology as it is an upcoming field and there is a shortage of professionals and researchers in the area. Once you have done your MS you can follow it with a MBA if you are interested in a management career rather than research. A65.MS in computer science is very popular is USA.It is offered in most of the colleges. Q64.Hey ppl,

As I've read in several forums and blogs that colleges give more emphasis on academics rather than GRE score. Of course GRE score do add much weight to the application. But how do I decide as to which colleges should I apply so that i dont end up wasting my time and money.Suppose I have an overall aggregate percentage in my undergrads as 65% or above. And a GRE score above 1400

A64.Selecting colleges according to your profile is one of the most important tasks of admission process. You have to spend time finalizing where you want to go and what you want to study. You have to figure out aid etc and get in ouch with professors and students. I suggest you take some time off and do it.

There are some private players who can do the selection job and help you apply to colleges. This will save you time but will cost you a bit money. Manya - The Princeton Review is a good one, refer to http://www.manyaeducation.com/contact/contact_location.php for details.

I want to do my masters in Computer Science.
I have a few queries ::1) As i am from an electronics background,Would universities allow branch change for Masters ? Do i have to take up a Subject GRE ?
2) As i would have almost 3 yrs of experience, by the time i apply for universities, Would my experience be considered? Is Experience valued pre and post MS?

Please do reply with your suggestions and solutions to the above.
Thank you very much,
Regards,
Sridhar

A63.I don't think there is any problems as long as you can explain with conviction why you don't want to continue with your UG major in the graduate school. Subject GRE's are usually not required but one can take it if the college requires it or just to show your knowledge.

experience will always be valued provided you present it as such. How has job developed your personality, outlook etc. You have to use a reason such as this to show that you want switch majors. October is kind of peak time, it depends when and where you are applying. For details refer to http://www.manyaeducation.com/gre/gre_main.php

Q60.is 15 year education enough to attempt gre, toefl?

A60.US colleges ask for 16 years (12+4) of education to apply for graduate studies. However they are aware that Indian system has 3 year college, that comes to about 15 years. I don't think that is a problem. These requirement don't hold for giving tests like GRE and Toefl. Please refer to http://www.manyaeducation.com/gre/gre_prep.php ,

A57. 1250 is a good score to work with provided your application, SOPs and LORs etc are good. You seem to have a good academic record, that is also going to help you securing admission. I suggest you make a shorlist of colleges you are interested in and then look at the the admission criteria. Getting in touch with professors with your particular field of study is also a good idea. If you have time and you think you can improve your score by a hundred points or more, you can try retaking it. For details loot at http://www.manyaeducation.com/gre/gre_main.php.

Q42.Good Morning. I want to know the the list of various universities that offer MS Degree in Computer Science as a major and if possible the GRE score above which we can get admission.

A42.Its easier to do a search on the net, however Computer Science is the most popular major and most colleges offer MS program in Computer Science. The top colleges are looking for scores in the range of V-530+, Q-760+,A- 720+. However with a good UG record and LORS, SOP's etc slightly lower scores will also be ok. The names are , MIT, Stanford, Cornell, Purdue, carnege melon, RPI, Virginia Tech etc. Refer to http://www.manyaeducation.com/gre/gre_prep.php for detailed GRE overview.

Q41.is 15 year education enough to attempt gre, toefel? Reply With Quote

A41.US colleges ask for 16 years (12+4) of education to apply for graduate studies. However they are aware that Indian system has 3 year college, that comes to about 15 years. I don't think that is a problem. These requirement don't hold for giving tests like GRE and Toefl. Please refer to gre and toefl for details.

Q40.admission into a masters degree programme in any university in USA without GRE to pursue any of these programme

A40.I would suggest you give the GRE to better your chances, besides most colleges require it. Some colleges that I have heard don't require GRE are Albright, Dean, Pacific University etc.Refer to Manya Group - University Partnerships :: Manya Abroad to get more names.

Q39.Hi I wanna know the universities in USA which give admissions without considering Toefl and Gre score.I'm Vijay kumar comp-leted my graduation Engineering and wanna pursue Masters in USA.My branch is Electrical and Electronics. Reply With Quote

A39.Hello, my suggestion is talk to admission authorities of the colleges directly to waive off these requirements. This is not going to be easy and you may hurt your admission chances. The best suggestion is to give the tests as it will make it easier for both you and the colleges. Refer to Toefl and GRE score for details.

Q38.Trying to make mom and pop proud Join Date: Apr 2007 Posts: 1 ramkumar.dce just joined TestMagic.Thumbs down Low GRE score -- plz helpppppppp I m IIIrd year Computer Engg. Student from Delhi College of Engg. Got a seriously low score 1250( V-510, Q-740) i m a dept. topper (a batch of 60) with 81% agg. have done few projects too want to pursue Computer Vision from a good US grad school ( rank below 30) do i hav any options left or should consider giving GRE again. plz helpppppppppppppppp ram kuamr

A38.1250 is a good score to work with provided your application, SOPs and LORs etc are good.

Q37.Change in Streams (GRE in Oct) !!! Hi Guys, I am Sridhar,B.E. in Electronics and Communication,Passed out in 2005 from VTU Bangalore. I am yet to take GRE and Toefl in october.I am working as a Software engineer with Oracle for almost 2 years now. 3) If stream change is possible, what do i state in my SOP for the branch change.....to convince the universities that i am really interested in taking up CS.........I need your suggestions on this Please.4) Is October too late for the GRE ??? Please do reply with your suggestions and solutions to the above. Thank you very much, Regards, Sridhar

A37.I don't think there is any problems as long as you can explain with conviction why you don't want to continue with your UG major in the graduate school. Subject GRE's are usually not required but one can take it if the college requires it or just to show your knowledge.experience will always be valued provided you present it as such. How has job developed your personality, outlook etc. You have to use a reason such as this to show that you want switch majors. October is kind of peak time, it depends when and where you are applying. For details refer to http://www.manyaeducation.com/gre/gre_main.php

Q26.Can anyone who has taken the real test and practiced the Barron's iBT book help me? I can hardly take note (though understand) in the listening and speaking section in the Barron because of the somewhat speedy speech! I did two practice tests in Barron, one with note taking and the other without taking notes and the latter's result was much better! Should i take note? Are the listening and speaking sections in the real tests similar to those of Barron? (everything is OK with the Longman anf Delta key). Thanks so much!

A26.I think that's a problem with almost everyone in the beginning. I think getting used to the accent takes a bit of practice. I suggest you improve your listening skills by practicing it. Once you are used to it, with the pace and accent, I think you will be able to take notes.Refer to TOEFL TEST PREP , it has a good article on listening.

A21.indeed important as it tells the college about the kind of student you have been. They are looking for consistency and improvement over time in such records. It is a factor in the admission process just like tests, application essays etc. You need a 100 on 120 in TOEFL or better. With GRE again, the cut off often vary from college to college, 1800+ would be good. Refer to http://www.manyaeducation.com/gre/gre_doubt_about_gre.php for GRE and manya education
