Painkiller Season 1 Episode 5 Recap – Why does Shannon take OxyContin?

3

Summary

Hot! Hot! Hot! is patchy, yet it remains an intriguing story of corporate greed preying on consumers and their staff.

This recap of the Netflix series Painkiller Season 1 Episode 5, Hot! Hot! Hot!, contains spoilers.

It’s hot! It’s hot! It’s hot! An adult mother reads a disclaimer: This program is based on true events. Certain characters, actions, locations, and conversation, on the other hand, have been fictionalized for dramatic purposes. She then puts up a photograph of her son, Matthew Stavron, and declares that this is not a made-up narrative.

Matthew died as a result of OxyContin usage in this story. She continues by expressing how much she misses him and his endearing smile.

Painkiller Season 1 Episode 5 Recap

Through a flashback to his boyhood and his father’s lesson about amassing riches for legacy rather than recognition, the episode offers light on Richard Sackler’s character. Edie focuses on how businesspeople abuse others for profit before donating their names to museums and libraries to keep their names alive.

Richard maintains his cool while participating with Edie’s FBI probe and bombarding them with documentation. However, we watch him struggle inside for the first time to live up to his uncle’s heritage. Richard is debating whether to confront the claims or delegate them to someone else.

Why does Shannon give the Dr. Cooper account to Molly?

It’s unclear why Shannon told her new trainee this story, but we can reasonably assume it’s about Dr. Cooper’s unwanted sexual approaches at the Purdue Pharma conference. Shannon has also been troubled by scenes of youngsters dosing on opioids in parking lots, dying, and reporting her findings to corporate, which Britt and Howard Udell have buried.

Why has Lily kicked Glen out of the house?

Glen’s opiate addiction has gotten out of hand, and he now lives at the office. Glen asks his doctor for additional drugs, but he refuses because Glen is berating and screaming at him. Glen, desperate for cash, sells his tools and wedding band for $390 in order to purchase narcotics. He is robbed at a pharmacy parking lot, loses all of his money, and sits on the ground in a freezing parking lot.

Glen manipulates Tyler by expressing affection and a wish for them to reunite as a family, but then demands money for opioids. He is evicted from his father’s home and believes he has reached rock bottom. Glen detoxes by sleeping on a mattress in a cupboard, displaying bodily indicators that he is making progress.

Who is John Brownlee?

Edie’s supervisor, US Attorney for the Western District of Virginia John Brownlee, meets with Richard to propose a settlement. Instead, Richard sends Howard Udell, who only gives a ten-million-dollar donation, prompting Brownlee to demand a public apology and five billion dollars.

While waiting in the lobby, Edie runs across Richard, who apologizes for his dog’s tennis ball landing at her feet. She compliments him on his money-making abilities, to which he responds with a solemn Thank you.

Who is Deborah Marlowe?

While Edie waited, Deborah, Udell’s assistant, invited Shannon to corporate. She initially ignored Edie’s call and was chastised by Sackler for releasing the name Oxycoffin. She later phones Edie, upset, and tells her everything. Her supervisor required her to conduct research on OxyContin (addiction rates, how it is gotten illegally and legally, which doctors refuse to prescribe it, and so on).

Deborah drafted a 59-page memo and distributed it to all business officers. Udell retaliated by throwing a coffee pot at her head. She was given the task of retrieving and shredding each packet. She is now rethinking her decision. Deborah agrees to speak publicly. Because the corporate leaders are leaving for Miami, Brownlee and Edie arrange to meet her tomorrow.

Why does Deborah not attend the meeting with Edie and John Brownlee?

Deborah, according to Edie, never shows up for the meeting because she is doctor shopping for OxyContin. Deborah has been using it for years, according to Udell’s study on how to obtain opiates legally and illegally. Their top witness is now untrustworthy and unable to testify.

John informs Edie that they require another witness, which leads us to Shannon.

Painkiller Season 1 Episode 5

Why does Shannon take OxyContin?

Shannon appears to have been influenced by peer pressure and disinformation in her decision to snort a crushed OxyContin tablet. At the party, she encounters Jay McCloskey, a former United States Attorney for the District of Maine who is now a consultant for Purdue Pharma, a firm she formerly condemned in a news conference. If the reps are taking painkillers and the official is suddenly on their side, she may be thinking that it must be safe.

Shannon then moves onto the dance floor before collapsing and falling into the pool. She is dragged out, and medical personnel are summoned.
