Summary

Here, the political games begin in earnest, and Kyung-sook has her big chance to truly shine.

This recap of Netflix K-Drama Queenmaker Season 1 Episode 5 contains spoilers.

A debate was promised in Episode 4 of Queenmaker, and it is presented right away in episode 5.

Nobody seems to have thought of it before, but Kyung-sook having Do-hee on her side can be a double-edged sword. She is unquestionably a talented thinker, but Seo Min-jung is keen to point out that she also has a troubled history.

It doesn’t help that Do-hee’s career has so far mostly been the antithesis of Kyung-sook’s, who is running as a champion of the working class. The fruit of a poisonous tree, she is.

Who wins the debate?

However, Min-jung isn’t exactly a saint either. She is making promises to people who provide her funds that she has no intention of honoring since her personal ambition is starting to take precedence over the interests of her constituents. The stark contrast between Min-jung’s public persona and her behavior in private has been made clear by Queenmaker, and the two become somewhat entwined in this scene.

The situation worsens when a planted man Min-jung had an affair with asks a question. Cracks start to appear. Do-hee’s ex-husband Joong-seok receives a lot of the criticism, which is logical given that he is the one who should not be underestimating Do-hee.

All of this is leading up to the pivotal scene in the episode, when Kyung-sook takes off her corset and other accessories and reveals herself for the first time as her true self, leaning on the one quality that all politicians appear to lack as her USP honesty. It’s a moment of triumph, and even Do-hee is compelled to admit that sometimes it might be better for her to defer to Kyung-sook’s judgment.

How does Chae-ryoung support Jae-min?

On the Eunsung side of things, Yoon and Jae-min are passively observing all of this while establishing their own voting base as a result of Jae-min’s popularity and charisma.

Chae-ryoung follows Chairperson Son’s instructions to the letter and flawlessly executes the role of the adoring wife, speaking to the media about how Jae-min has stood by her throughout her quiet battle with cancer. He can only benefit his campaign by coming across as the devoted husband, and Yoon is pleased with the improvisation.

Even during family celebrations, the cattiness persists.

What is the Leah Company?

Do-hee is able to look for flaws even as Jae-min continues to win over the public. A lot of these flaws can be found in the Chairperson Son’s Heaven of Asia project’s catfish redevelopment plans, which are being funded by the enigmatic Leah Company, a multinational organization with its headquarters in the Virgin Islands.

Do-hee asks journalist Cho-rong to investigate why a foreign corporation is providing funds for the most important project in the nation. It is the key to everything since Jae-min’s mayoral campaign is burning the premium gas surrounding it as fuel.

Queenmaker Season 1 Episode 5 Ending Explained

By employing kompromat to ensure that the Leah Company’s permits are held until the election of a new mayor, who would decide the destiny of the redevelopment, Do-hee deals a severe blow to Eunsung Group.

This has a significant financial impact on the Eunsung Group and completely alters the election race. Additionally, it had the advantage of incensing Chairperson Son, who confronted Do-hee at the episode’s conclusion.
