Where Were the Scenes of The Movie Predator Shot?

Predator is an American science fiction action Movie from 1987. It was written by brothers Jim and John Thomas and directed by John McTiernan. It is the first movie in the series about the Predator.

Arnold Schwarzenegger plays the leader of an elite paramilitary rescue team on a mission to save hostages in the guerrilla-held territory in a Central American rainforest. They meet the deadly Predator, played by Kevin Peter Hall, who stalks and hunts them down.

The Box Office

Predator came out on June 12, 1987. In its first weekend, it was No. 1 at the US box office, making $12 million, which was second only to Beverly Hills Cop II for the whole year of 1987.
The movie made $98,267,558, of which $59,735,548 came from sales in the US and Canada. In other places, $38,532,010 was made.

Is the Predator Movie Filmed In a Jungle?

If you’ve seen the movie, you’ve probably seen Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, and the rest of the ragtag group sweat through the jungle and wondered: where was “Predator” filmed? If the actors in the movie look really sweaty and uncomfortable, that’s because they probably were. They shot almost the whole production in Mexico. Specifically, in Jalisco, Palenque, and Puerto Vallarta.

We’re going to break down these three locations so you know where some of the most famous scenes were shot. But first, let’s talk a little bit about the actors’ experiences working in the jungle where they filmed.

An article from Maxim Magazine talks about some of the problems, such as how to deal with native bugs like ants, scorpions, and snakes. That doesn’t even begin to show how hard it was to work in the sweltering heat and humidity while carrying around very heavy equipment. It’s no surprise that the sequel took place in a city. It sounds like nobody was too eager to go back to the jungle for another hard production.

Where Was the Movie Shooting?

The main filming started in the jungles of Palenque, Chiapas, Mexico, in the last week of March 1986, but most of the movie was shot in Mismaloya, Mexico. Most of the material about the unit’s deployment in the jungle was done in just a few weeks, and both Silver and Gordon were happy with the daily updates that McTiernan gave them.

On Friday, April 25, work stopped so Schwarzenegger could get to his wedding on time. Silver chartered a Learjet and flew it to Hyannis Port. Schwarzenegger got married to Maria Shriver on April 26, 1986. They went on their honeymoon for only three days because the second unit had to do more filming. Filming started again on May 12, and it was over by the end of June 1986.

Shooting In Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

We’ll start by talking about one of the easiest places for the production to film. About 400 miles west of Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta is near a beach resort. Movie-Locations.com says that this wasn’t the first time that the resort was in a big Hollywood movie. “John Huston’s 1964 adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ The Night of the Iguana, starring Richard Burton and Ava Gardner, put Puerto Vallarta on the map as a resort when it was filmed just to the south, in Mismaloya.”

It looks like the “El Eden” resort is proud of its connection to Predator. But it looks like all that’s left today is the crashed helicopter and a statue of the alien in question. Some of the early scenes in the movie took place in this area, like when Dutch’s crew tries to save the guerilla fighters and before things get really bad for them.

Now that we know at least some of the answers to the question “Where was “Predator” filmed? “, we can say for sure that it was in the United States. Now, let’s go a little further into the jungle and check out Palenque.

Palenque and the Misol-ha Waterfall In Naples

Some of the other most memorable parts of “Predator” happen toward the end of the movie. One of these is the scene where Dutch and the alien meet at the Waterfall. This is another place that will make people wonder where “Predator” was filmed.

This waterfall is called the Misol-ha Waterfall, and it is close to the town of Palenque. If you wanted to go to this place for yourself, you’re in luck. An article on Gigaplaces tells us that you can not only visit the waterfall, but you can also go into caves nearby and even get behind the beautiful waterfall.

People say that it’s not a joke back there, so make sure to take some precautions. “It’s almost unbelievable how much space is hidden under the overhang behind the waterfall, but the path is wet and slippery.” So, if you decide to go to the Misol-ha Waterfall, watch where you step so you don’t fall down like Dutch did in the movie!

Movie-Locations.com says that fans will also remember Dutch swimming through another set of waterfalls, though they are smaller. The “Cascadas de Aguas Azules” are next to the Misol-ha Waterfall. It looks like this is another place you can visit yourself, so if you’re ever in Mexico and want to take your own tour of the places where “Predator” was filmed, you’re in luck. Both Palenque and Puerto Vallarta are good places for tourists to go.
