Students of Ekiti State University this morning protested against the movement of Motorcyclists around the university.
The event started yesterday evening when a motorcyclist accidentally hit a student at a junction around the university. Students around that area had a fight with cyclists that move around the scene yesterday before the student union talk of protesting the next day.
Students joined together in protest around the school main gate when the vice chancellor met them and had a brief discussion with them.
Protesters in multitude took their heels when police in their armoured personnel carrier shot tear gas to the crowd.
"The vice chancellor ordered the police to shoot the tear gas". A student who witnessed the scene said.
Another student said " We are not even safe in our hostels, some students of a hostel were paraded out of their hostel with tear gas".
President of the student union, Aridiogo Olaitan (Aruson) in a speech engage the protesters to disperse to their various hostels and will also get in touch with the students after 48 hours. He also said that victims of the protest have been relocated to the teaching hospital.
A rumor is spreading in the university that the student union president have just got arrested by the state security a while ago.
