Were the Silence Breakers the right choice for Time’s Person of the Year Award?

Wednesday, Time Magazine named their Person of the Year on the Today show. This year’s recipient(s) were the Silence Breakers, who helped launch the #MeToo movement. The #MeToo movement has led to a national discussion on the issue of sexual assault and harassment on both women and men. This movement has brought to light the actions of many famous and powerful men across the country in many walks of life. From politics to entertainment, we have seen men called to account for their behavior over the years, all thanks to people coming forward and sharing their stories.

On this year’s cover is Isabel Pascual, a strawberry picker; Adama Iwu, a lobbyist; former Uber engineer Susan Fowler; Taylor Swift; Ashley Judd; and one woman, whose face you can’t see, that represents the men and women who came forward anonymously. With the naming of this year’s winner, a question comes to mind. Did Time Magazine make the right choice in naming the Silence Breakers this year’s Person of the Year?
