LASG Speaks On Bus Reform Initiative To Improve Transportation System




According to the information gathered by Eyes Of Lagos, In an effort geared towards transforming the Lagos transportation system, The Lagos State Government has restated its commitment to the Bus Reform Initiative (BRI), a programme which targets the introduction of medium and high capacity buses.
Acting Commissioner for Transportation, Prince Anofiu Olanrewaju Elegushi who stated this, said the gesture was designed to strengthen the transport sector through the provision of 5000 medium and high capacity buses over a 3-year period.
Elegushi, who added that the carrying capacity of the buses to be introduced would range from 30 – 70 people, stated that of the 5,000 proposed buses, 3,600 would be high capacity while the remaining 1,400 would be the medium capacity buses.
The commissioner also said that the scheme would be supported by a franchise system involving private stakeholders or groups who would participate by way of taking up the bus franchise in multiples of 50, 100 and 200 buses.
Elegushi reiterated that the Bus Reform Initiative of the State Government was not aimed at banning yellow buses but rather it is a refleeting scheme aimed at providing medium and high capacity buses that were able to carry larger numbers of passengers at a go.
He therefore enjoined motorists and commuters to appreciate the government’s gesture and investment in the transportation sector of the State with their support for the initiative.
