Ethiopian Airlines Flight Lands at Kaduna International Airport as the first Foreign airline to use the facility

The use of Kaduna International Airport for flights meant for Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport began in earnest on Wednesday with the landing of Ethiopian Airline flight into the facility which is about 170 kilometres from the Nigerian capital.
The flight was received by Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, and other officials of the ministry.
The Federal Government had indicated that it will close down Abuja Airport, the second busiest airport in the country to allow for repairs of its runway at midnight Wednesday.
Government had embarked on upgrade of the Kaduna Airport to prepare it to receive flights meant for Abuja ahead of the closure.

Passengers are to be transported by road or rail to Abuja after landing in Abuja. But most international airlines, except the Ethiopian carrier have indicated they will not fly into Kaduna, citing insecurity and other reasons.
