Vicia Takes Second Place in 10Best Readers’ Choice New Restaurants in the U.S.
St. Louis, MO/January 8, 2017 (STL.News)(Keywords: Vicia, USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice) –Vicia, Michael and Tara Gallina’s first restaurant that opened its doors last March recently picked up another award. The 2,500-square-foot restaurant and bar, located in the Cortex Innovation District, claimed the #2 spot on USA TODAY 10 Best Readers’ Choice travel award contest recognizing the 10Best New Restaurants in the United States.
USA Today 10Best asked a panel of food and travel experts to nominate their 20 favorite new restaurants to open in the past 18 months, ranging from chef-driven fast casual concepts to high end dining with a focus on hyper-local and sustainable ingredients. Their readers have been voting for their favorites for the past four weeks.
The honor is quite a feat for the popular St. Louis restaurant. According to the National Restaurant Association there are more than a million different restaurants in the United States. Each year there are hundreds, if not thousands of new eateries opening up offering lots of various options. That means the competition is extremely tough.
“We are honored and thrilled to be named a top new restaurant in the United States by USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice,” said Tara. “We are amazed at how the St. Louis community has supported us and couldn’t be more thankful to everyone who voted.”
Vicia was designed by Sasha Malinich of R/5 and Casco Architects and offers a menu with seasonal, vegetable-forward, wood-fired cooking using fresh ingredients. There is a counter-style service at lunch and a full service experience at dinner where guests can choose from an a la carte menu or a chef’s choice tasting menu.
The Gallina’s believe in food and dining, as both art and truly inspirational. Vicia , pronounced vis-see-ya, is named for the class of plant species that includes vetch, a common cover crop in Missouri. After visiting several local farms, the couple was so inspired that they created a concept that’s all about the abundance of the Midwest. Their menu reflects the special relationships they’ve developed with farmers, artists, and craftspeople across the region.
Nominees for all categories are chosen by a panel of experts partnered with 10Best editors to pick the initial nominees, and the top 10 winners were determined by popular vote.
