New St. Louis Restaurants Offering Burgers, Waffles, Chicken and More

St. Louis, MO/December 1, 2017 (STL.News) – St. Louis already has a myriad of great places to eat.  The Gateway City is home to many nationally acclaimed, chef-driven restaurants.  Still, in a foodie city like ours, there’s always something new cooking.  For casual diners who crave high-quality ingredients there is some good culinary news.  Several new restaurants in the works will bring fresh burgers and chicken, as well as waffles and ice cream, to new diners across the metro area.

Shake Shack will be the first of these new eateries in St. Louis, with plans to open their long-awaited Central West End restaurant on Monday, December 11th.  The premium burger and shake joint is the brainchild of St. Louis native Danny Meyer, who opened the first Shake Shack in a kiosk in New York City’s Madison Square Park more than a dozen years ago.  Since then, Meyer’s restaurant group has built more than 100 Shake Shacks across the globe.  When it opens this month, the Shake Shack on the ground floor of The Euclid building (32 North Euclid Ave.) will be the first in the metro area.  Like other Shake Shacks, the CWE location will offer some uniquely local menu items.  Those include the Mound City Double—a double Provel cheeseburger topped with all-natural smoked Niman Ranch bacon; the Central West BLEND made with vanilla frozen custard, salted caramel sauce and Park Avenue Coffee gooey butter cake; and the Chocolate Chip Cookie shake made with chocolate frozen custard, Winslow’s Home chocolate chip cookie, Askinosie dark chocolate chunks and salted caramel sauce.  They’ll also feature the Pie Oh My made with vanilla frozen custard and a slice of seasonal pie from local bakery Pie Oh My!  The Shake Shack bar will feature Schlafly Beer as well as brews from Urban Chestnut Brewing Co., and 4 Hands Brewing Co.

Plans are on track for the second Boardwalk Waffles & Ice Cream location in the area.  The new shop is set to open near Valley Park in February 2018—just a year after the restaurant’s launch in Maplewood offering classic Jersey Shore-style ice cream waffle sandwiches created with fresh Belgian-style waffles. Boardwalk is taking over the site of the shuttered frozen yogurt shop Yo My Goodness at 2901 Dougherty Ferry Road.  Owner Eric Moore has said the new shop will offer more seating than the original Boardwalk location at 7326 Manchester Road.  The menu will be similar, offering scoops of Serendipity homemade ice cream in 16 flavors on fresh, house-made Belgian waffles.  The larger Valley Park location will allow Moore to make some possible additions to the menu.  Moore has said he plans to add live music on the patio in Valley Park and has hinted that he may stretch the fresh waffle menu into breakfast hours.  Moore is also working on a Boardwalk Waffles & Ice Cream in Fayetteville, Georgia.  The original Maplewood location will remain open.

Students and staff at St. Louis College of Pharmacy will soon have a new place to eat on campus.  Plans are in the works to open a new Chick-fil-A restaurant on the Central West End campus in February (2018).  Renovations are already underway to create the new fast-food, chicken restaurant, plus a Starbucks as well.  The SLCP Chick-fil-A will be operated by Pedestal Foods.  The Nashville-based food service company already operates Chick-fil-A locations on the campuses of Lindenwood University in St. Charles, St. Louis University, and Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville.

There’s still been no opening date or specific location announced for St. Louis’ first Wahlburgers, just assurances that it is coming.  In an interview by KMOV-TV, Wahlburgers co-owner Mark Wahlberg said several locations in St. Louis are being considered, and the company is also weighing the option of opening multiple locations here.  The upscale burger and bar chain was founded by chef Paul Wahlberg and his brothers, actors Mark and Donnie Wahlberg.  When Hy-Vee, Inc. announced its new partnership with the burger chain in August 2017, the company said they had plans to build and operate 26 Wahlburgers restaurants in the Midwest region.  Locations are expected to include Des Moines, Kansas City, and St. Louis.  According to the Wahlburgers website, there are currently 20 locations in the U.S. and Canada.  Besides the Midwest expansion, new locations are also planned in Pittsburgh, Memphis, Cincinnati, Raleigh, Taylor (MI), Los Angeles, and West Hollywood.

Delicious things are heading our way in St. Louis this winter—from new restaurants to fresh menus.  And we’ll keep dishing up the tasty news for you.
