Maharashtra govt: Sanjay Dutt deserved early release from jail

  • Maharashtra government submitted an affidavit in Bombay HC and justified its stand on actor Sanjay Dutt's early jail release stating that Dutt displayed "good behaviour, and discipline while in jail," and "performed all allotted work" leading to early remission.

  • Residents of Ambedkar Nagar in Kurar, Malad (East) found a 5-6 months old foetus dumped outside the slum and alerted police.
  • The police could not find out if the foetus was a boy or girl. The foetus has been sent for an autopsy.
  • A case has been registered under the Indian Penal Code. Police are questioning slum-dwellers to find out about the foetus' parents.

  • Mumbai cops leave no stone unturned to make colleges drug-free

  • As part of its campaign of making colleges drug-free, anti narcotics cell spoke to students from 50 colleges, schools about drug-abuse. The campaign's focus has also been shifted to junior colleges, schools.
  • "We realized that students from classes 8 to 12 are more susceptible. If we make students aware of the ill-effects of drugs, they are more likely to stay away." an official said.

  • Mumbai psychiatrists complained to Maharashtra child rights panel about slow pace of investigations in a rape case wherein a three-year-old girl was allegedly raped by 57-year-old school trustee in Andheri school.
  • The accused hasn't returned from a school trip in Paris yet, even though trip ended and he was expected to return by June 30.
  • Psychiatrists have demanded for immediate deportation of the accused.

  • Mumbai police have still not filed a defamation case based on activist Aftab Siddique's complaint made 16 months ago about being trolled on Twitter, while they did not waste any time in filing an FIR for defamation against All India Bakchod for a tweet on PM Narendra Modi.
  • Siddique was trolled for supporting poor dwellers of a slum rehabilitation authority building against a builder.
