FIR against publisher of controversial CBSE textbook

  • An FIR was registered in Preet Vihar Police Station in Delhi against the publisher of a controversial CBSE textbook that said the ideal figure for a woman was 36-24-26.
  • The publisher, New Saraswati House (India) Pvt. Ltd, New Delhi has been booked for indecent representation of women.
  • The textbook in question is the class-12 'Health and Physical Education' textbook by Dr. V.K. Sharma.

  • The CBSE has clarified that it did not recommend the textbook in question for any school's syllabus.
  • The board said that the book in question inappropriately described aspects of physical health which were not in context or consonance with their syllabus.
  • The CBSE added that it does not recommend textbooks by private publishing houses for any of its affiliated schools.

    In a statement, the CBSE clarified that "The board had not prescribed the controversial book...The author has written out of context, the textbook is not strictly as per the syllabus."
