So about this time last year I made the executive decision to take down our old above ground swimming pool – it hadn’t been used in years since the kids were at home, and because it was starting to look pretty sun damaged and tatty I thought enough was enough and it should go. So it did.

Of course since then I’ve been trying to think of ways to utilise the space left behind, after all I made a perfectly level concrete base for it when I put it up so it seemed a shame to waste that. In the end Caroline decided it might be nice to use it as a kind of standalone patio. Seemed like a good idea to me, put the table and chairs out there and enjoy a glass of wine of an evening, perfect!
At the weekend then I decided to put up a high trellis around the perimeter of this new circular patio with the intention of getting some creepers growing up it in time. Caroline is in charge of selecting the plants, but I’m happy with the structural work, so we’ll see how it looks in a few weeks.
