Keep that garden working!

I know I've been a little down on the fact that the dreaded Colder season is now upon us, but I though I'd better not let that detract from at least trying to make the best of it. So with that in mind I've  racked my brains and come up with a few ideas that have worked for me over the years, basically with regard to keeping the Garden alive throughout the Autumn. It can be done believe me, you just have to stick with it!

One of the best things that I've had success with is continuing to grow vegetables with the aid of cheap plastic greenhouse to cover the Vegetable patch with, and (interestingly enough) Christmas lights to aid with their growth! I'm talking things like radish, and kale, which are hardy crops anyway.
On the subject of covering, I've also had sucess with covering flower beds with sheets during the night. This protects the plants from frost, and traps any residual heat that' accumulated during the day. This works well, and I'm told that for optimum results a 'space blanket' I'm guessing like the ones they give out at the end of marathons, with it's metallic refelective surface is best for protecting plants when temperatures drop below zero. I've yet to try this though.
In terms of what to grow, besides the hardy vegetables mentioned above, I've also had success with leafy vegetables such as lettuce and spinach. These actually prefer growing in colder conditions, but I think it's still wise to cover them with something at night time.
