Low, Low Price
This is a very low priced string trimmer. In fact, it's about as low at they go. This is definitely an asset if you are not wanting to spend a lot on on a trimmer, but you do get what you pay for on this one. It will do some trimming, but it's not a high quality trimmer to do any heavy trimming work.
The GreenWorks Corded String Trimmer weighs in at only 5.2 pounds. This is a super lightweight in comparison to the other string trimmers out on the market. Even though this lightweight trimmer is not going to handle heavy duty work like a heavier string trimmer would, the fact that is so so lightweight is a huge advantage, especially if you have issues lifting objects.
May Bog Down in Tall and Thick Grass
If you have tall and thick grass, you may want to go with a more powerful string trimmer. However, if you are set on the GreenWorks Corded String Trimmer, than rest assured, you can get around this issue. You just may have to make more than one pass over a thick and tall section. Instead of tackling a whole area, let the string trimmer just work half of the intended section at a time. It will be slower moving, but it also shouldn't bog down as easily.
Easy Start Up
The fact that this string trimmer starts up so easily, might just be reason in itself to get it. Simply pull the trigger and it starts. With gas powered string trimmers you may find yourself pulling a cord again and again. That is one of the nice things about the electric string trimmers like the GreenWorks Corded Trimmer. One customer explained why she liked it. Her comments were a reflection of other similar comments about the easy start up. She said, "I used to dread trimming with my gas trimmer because of starting issues and string problems...I love being able to pull the trigger and know it will start."
Good for Lightwork. Just Don't Be Too Rough with It
Keep in mind that this is a small 4 amp string trimmer. It may do the job fine for you, but make sure to treat it delicately. It only weighs 5.2 pounds so that in itself you tell you that it's not a heavy duty machine. A customer shares his experience, "This is an okay string trimmer for light duty but I am dubious of the build quality. When I initially took it out of the box and tried to adjust the height of the unit using the twist lock in the center of the shaft the lock popped apart and and the springs came out. I was surprised by this because I was using only moderate pressure and the two springs that provide the tension are nothing more than the springs you find in a pen. Fortunately, I was able to get the unit reassembled and it seems to do the job. The unit has a four year warranty and after my initial experience with it I'll be surprised if I don't have to use it."
It may be smaller than other string trimmers, and it may not be able to handle a heavy workload as well as gas powered string trimmers, but for many the trade-off is a quiet machine. One customers explains why this is a big asset, "I live in a major metropolitan city and this has been a great tool for maintaining my small yard. Combined with a push mower I'm able to take care of everything in a quiet manner without annoying my neighbors. Since we all live so close together this is very important. It does still make a fair amount of noise, as cutting is a loud operation, but it doesn't have the whine of a gas trimmer."
GreenWorks Corded String Trimmer Conclusion
The GreenWorks Corded String Trimmer is a very low priced trimmer. For the money, you may not expect much, but after reading many reviews on this string trimmer, I found that the majority of people were very happy with it. Just don't expect it to do heavy duty work like a larger gas powered string trimmer could do. Tall and thick grass could easily bog it down. But on the up side, it is easy to start and very lightweight. You will have to contend with a cord, but for the price, you can't have it all. If you are looking to purchase a lightweight and inexpensive string trimmer for light jobs, then I recommend the GreenWorks Corded String Trimmer.
