If you have placed an order with Freedom Seeds recently you may have noticed our payment gateway was closed. We wanted to explain what happened.
Back in August 2016 we received a letter from our Merchant Account provider explaining that they would be revoking our credit/debit card processing capabilities with immediate effect. The reasons given for this particular decision were typically vague, but their motive is obvious. The policy from Visa & Mastercard in the US is not to allow a business that sells cannabis seed to have a credit card processing facility, making trading off a website almost impossible and so putting such enterprises out of business.
As I’m sure you’re aware the law is quite clear within the UK with regards to the sale of cannabis Seeds. It is perfectly legal to buy, sell and possess cannabis seeds. It is illegal to cultivate cannabis but since we sell our seeds under the strict understanding that they will not be cultivated we do not consider this to be an issue.
The breathtaking hypocrisy of a bank trying to lecture us on a moral issue isn’t a surprise.
This isn’t the first time we’ve had to put up with this unfair treatment and will continue to fight resolutely against such discriminatory policies in the future. We at Freedom Seeds (and for that matter other cannabis seed suppliers) face a near constant battle to keep our payment processing capabilities online so you can gain access to a perfectly legal product.
Since having our online payment processing removed we have still been taking credit and debit card orders over the phone. For those of you who have stuck with us and have chosen an alternative payment method we offer a thank you. And whilst it has been a pleasure getting the chance to speak to many of you in person we appreciate that it can be an inconvenience.
So we are really pleased to say that we have managed to secure an alternative provider, and that as of today you will once again be able to place orders and complete payment entirely online at Freedom Seeds.
