There isn’t a Rose fragrance, there are several.

The heavy Rose Fragrance we’re all familiar with comes from the Damasks – Ispahan and Kazanlak – which are the industrial crops for perfume production.

This Scent is overbearing in large quantities, even for the rose lovers.

The pure rose scent belongs to the hybrid teas, like Fragrant Cloud, Double Delight, Radiant Perfume, or Peace.

Their scent is clean and sweet, with hints of honeysuckle, carnation, clove and citrus.

The rose briars, the eglantines, are called apple scented roses, and they earned this name fair and square. Their fragrance is a crisp blend of green apple and citrus, and it exudes from their foliage as well as their flowers. Their wild ancestors reliably passed this characteristic to all their many hybrids.

And last, the centifolias, the Provence roses, smell like honey, with hints of melon, and touches of spicy clove. Their old rose scent is sweet, but not overwhelmingly so, because of the refreshing ripe fruit accents.
