Aloe Vera farming and usage

Aloe Vera is a herbal plant

It is a herbal plant grown in warm tropical climate. It can not survive chilly climatic conditions.It requires dry sandy loamy soil with direct sunlight and conservative watering. It can be planted in sandy pots also in kitchen gardens or terrace gardens. Off course, the quantity or yield will depend on the area in which it has been planted.

Since it is a herbal plant, it is a good raw material  for many pharmaceutical and cosmetic manufacturing companies. It is also used by drug manufacturing companies to make Ayurvedic and Unani medicines. The bitter juice of Aloe Vera is obtained by cutting the leaves at their base and letting yellow gel let out. The light to dark brown mass is obtained by removing the water from the gel by evaporation.

How to grow Aloe Vera?

In India, it can be cultivated through out the places. It is a hard plant like cactus and it requires dry sandy soil having pH value up to 8.Water logged soil is not suitable for growing Aloe Vera.The best months to grow in India is between March and June where 155-200 cm yearly rainfall is predicated during the growing period.

Land should be cleaned free of weeds and it should be planted in space of 2ft*1ft.Rhizome cutting of root should be 2/3 of the height of the plant inside ground.5 to 6 irrigation per year should be applied.

Gestation period

After plantation at least 8 months to  one year is required to reap good harvest so that raw produce can be marketed, provided it was free of weeds and there was good yield.
