Protests in several states of the country against violence in Manipur

Violence in Manipur: On Friday, a large number of people in the states of Delhi, Bihar, Jharkhand, Kerala, Goa, etc. protested to end the violence and restore peace in Manipur. The situation in the hilly area of Manipur has been tense after video emerged on Wednesday of an incident that took place on May 4. This video shows some people from one community undressing two women from another community.

In Delhi, activists led by the All India Students’ Association and Krantikari Yuva Sangathan gathered at Jantar Mantar with placards and banners. These signs and banners carried messages such as “Chief Minister Biren Singh steps down” and “Stop Violence in Manipur”.

The Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS) said in a statement that KYS strongly condemns the incident, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren demands that Singh resign immediately.

At the same time, tribal organizations held a protest march on the issue in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, on Friday. About 10 different tribal organizations marched from Jaipal Singh Stadium to Albert Ekka Chowk, where participants chanted slogans against the Manipur center and government for allegedly failing to stop the violence. So far, 160 people have been killed in the violence in Manipur and thousands have been left homeless.

Kendriya Sarna Samiti (KSS) Central President Ajay Tirkey said the incident of two naked women parading has brought disgrace to the country. We appeal to President Draupadi Murmu to take the matter seriously. We demand that the President’s rule be immediately imposed in Manipur.

Meanwhile, a woman in Goa shaved her head on Friday to protest atrocities against women in Manipur. A group of like-minded citizens organized a protest at Azad Maidan in Panaji and condemned the incident.

As protesters chanted slogans against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Manipur, a woman in the group shaved her head.

Embarrassing incident: Video of two women being paraded naked through a crowd in Manipur has raised eyebrows in West Bengal

The organization is shocked and calls the incident ‘shameful’. Filmmakers and painters in Kolkata, considered the cultural capital of the country, unanimously condemned the incident.

Filmmaker and social activist Aparna Sen broke down when asked to comment on the incident in Manipur, calling it ‘Narimedh Yajna’ (Women Sacrifice). Bangladeshi actor Parambrata Chatterjee said the video from Manipur left him “stunned”.

Manipur’s shocking scene is a “blemish” on the country, painter Sameer Aich said in a video that surfaced on July 19. He said I wonder if we can be proud that our country’s condition is better than that of Taliban-ruled Afghanistan.

Politics behind the video: Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sarma questioned the timing of the release of the viral video of two tribal women being paraded naked in Manipur, saying it was political to release it just a day before the parliament’s monsoon session. He claimed that rape incidents are much higher in some opposition-ruled states such as West Bengal, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh than in BJP-ruled Manipur or other northeastern states.
