Lasith Malinga’s son Duvin hits center stump while bowling in net session of MINY in MLC 2023

Lasith Maling is a legendary name in the cricket world. Not many bowlers have had such an impact on the game as he has. The trademark slippery action and toe-crushing yorkers of the right-arm pacer were a nightmare for even the world’s best hitters. He was not only the backbone of the Sri Lankan team but also of the various franchises he represented in league cricket around the world. And now it seems that his Son Duvin Malings is following in his father’s cricketing footsteps.

While the senior Malinga was part of the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise in the IPL as a player before being taken into their coaching staff by Rajasthan Royals, MI’s sister franchise MI New Yorkd managed to take him on as their bowling coach in Major League Cricket (MLC). While the ex-speedster’s son, Duvin, has also traveled to the US with him, during a team netting session, the youngster was seen hitting the center stump with a ball he bowled.

The Sri Lankan bowling legend bowled his son from outside the nets. He commented, “Natural action. He’s got to bowl straight and fast. If he beats that, he can learn the skills.”

“If you’re a Malinga and you’re on (target), Duvin Malinga has the BEST teacher. We’d know,” the video of Duvin hitting the target was captioned by the MLC franchise.

While it’s still early days in Duvin’s cricketing journey, it would be interesting to see if he gets to play international cricket like his T20 World-Cup winning father or ever don the IPL jersey.
