Man in custody for threatening Chhagan Bhujbal’s death

Poona. Pune police have detained a 24-year-old man for threatening to kill Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and minister of Maharashtra Chhagan Bhujbal.

A police official said on Tuesday that the suspect allegedly called the phone number of Bhujbal’s Personal Assistant (PA) on Monday night and said he had taken Bhujbal’s “betel nut” and was going to kill him. Bhujbal’s personal assistant (PA) lodged a complaint with the police about this. Bhujbal recently joined the Maharashtra cabinet under the leadership of Eknath Shinde.

“A case has been registered against an individual and during the investigation his location has been traced to Mahad in the neighboring Raigad district,” the police officer said. The Pune crime department has taken the suspect from Mahad into custody and he is being brought here for investigation, he said.

Eight other NCP MLAs, Including Bhujbal and Ajit Pawar, had joined the Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Shinde-led coalition government by July 2. Pawar took oath as deputy chief minister, while others including Bhujbal took oath as cabinet ministers.
