A two-day meeting of BRICS Foreign Ministers is taking place in Cape Town, South Africa.

It is believed that Russia and China want to challenge the dominance of the West through the Brics.

India is also included in this group, but India’s policy has been the policy of not getting involved with all groups or not in any group.

This time the BRICS presidency is with South Africa and their summit will be held there.

What is Brix?

BRICS is a group of five fastest growing economies in the world.

BRICS is a word derived from the English letters BRICS, in which each letter represents a country.

These Countries are Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

These are the countries that some experts believe will become major suppliers of manufacturing, services and raw materials by 2050.

He believes that China and India will become the world’s leading suppliers of manufacturing and service industries, while Russia and Brazil will become the largest suppliers of raw materials.

Who gave this name to the BRICS?

Jim O’Neill, a British economist, coined the term while working at Goldman Sachs, the world’s most powerful investment bank. So the word was BRIC.

When South Africa was also added to this group in 2010, it became BRICS.

O’Neill first used this term in his research paper in 2001.

When was the first BRICS meeting held?

For the first time in 2006, the leaders of Brazil, Russia, India and China, that is, BRICs, met for the first time with the G-8 group summit in St. Petersburg, Russia.

In September 2006, when the foreign ministers of these countries met formally during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the group was called the BRIC.

At the same time, on June 16, 2009, the first official summit-level meeting of the BRIC countries took place in Yekaterinburg, Russia.

After this, in 2010, the BRIC summit was held in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil. In the same year it became BRICS from BRIC with the addition of South Africa.

South Africa attended the third summit of the grouping for the first time in April 2011 in Sanya, China.

Will new countries be included as well?

The BRICS headquarters are in Shanghai, China. The BRICS conferences are held every year and are attended by the heads of state of the five member countries.

When there were four countries in this group, one member country organized its conference every five years, whereas now it happens every six years. That is, every sixth year India hosts this meeting.

The BRICS summit is chaired by the supreme leaders of the BRICS member countries one by one each year.

This year, the meeting is being hosted by South Africa.

The population of the BRICS countries is approximately 40% of the world’s population and their share in world GDP is approximately 30%.

The BRICS countries want to work together on economic issues, but there is also a big political dispute between some of them. In these disputes, the border dispute between India and China is the most important.

There is no formal way to become a member. The member countries make this decision by mutual agreement.

Until 2020, no special attention was paid to the proposal to add new members to this group, but after that the discussion about expanding this group began.

Currently, Algeria, Argentina, Bahrain, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates have applied to join the group.

At the same time, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, Sudan, Syria, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Uruguay, Venezuela and Zimbabwe have also shown interest in its membership.
