Jammu: Jawans foiled a large drug and arms smuggling attempt near the border fence near Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir and Arrested three Terrorists in this regard. The officers provided this information. An army Jawan and one of the arrested defendants were injured by gunfire in the early morning at Karmara village in Gulpur sector, he said. The authorities said that the troops deployed along the border, upon detecting a suspicious movement, tried to detain the people, after which the exchange of fire began.
The entire area was immediately cordoned off and three people were arrested, one of whom was injured, authorities said. A shipment of drugs and weapons has been recovered from them. An army Jawan was also injured in the shooting. The officials identified the arrested defendants as Mohd Farooq (26), Mohd Riaz (23) and Mohd Zubair (22) from Karmara village. Mohammad Farooq has a bullet in his leg.

He said it was believed they had received a shipment of weapons and drugs from across the border that they wanted to smuggle across the border, when troops swung into action and thwarted their efforts. Authorities said an AK rifle, two handguns, six grenades, an IED (improvised explosive device) kept in a pressure cooker and 20 packages of suspected heroin were recovered from the people arrested. Authorities said the search operation was continuing until the latest reports were received.
