Australia to establish Consulate General in Bangalore: PM Albanese

In a statement to the media after talks with PM Modi, the Albanian PM said the opening of the new diplomatic mission in Bangalore will help connect the country’s businesses with the fast-growing digital and innovation ecosystem of the India.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced Wednesday that Australia will open a Consulate General in Bangalore this month. A day earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that India would set up a similar mission in Brisbane to improve ties between the two countries. In a statement to the media after talks with PM Modi, the Albanian PM said the opening of the new diplomatic mission in Bangalore will help connect the country’s businesses with the fast-growing digital and innovation ecosystem of the India.

The opening of the Consulate General in Bengaluru this month will mark Australia’s fifth diplomatic mission in India. It previously had Consulates General in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. India currently has three consulates in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. There is currently an Indian Honorary Consulate in Brisbane. “Extending Australia’s diplomatic ‘footprint’ to Bangalore will help connect Australian businesses to India’s fast-growing digital economy and innovation ecosystem,” Albanese said. Our growing ties in science and technology will strengthen.

The Albanian Prime Minister also welcomed India’s plans for a Consulate General in Brisbane. Prime Minister Modi thanked Australia for its support in setting up the Indian Consulate General in Brisbane. On the G20, Albanese said that he hoped to visit India again to attend the G20 summit. “My minister regularly travels to India for G20 discussions,” he said. The two leaders also exchanged MoUs on green hydrogen mobility, migration and labor.

Albanese, referring to the many meetings he had with Modi several times over a year, said this development says a lot about the Australia-India friendship. He said: “I have met Modi six times in the first year of my tenure as Prime Minister. This demonstrates the importance we attach to deepening relations between the two countries. Australia is a better place thanks to the contribution of the Indian-Australian community and we want to see deeper ties between our countries. ,

Prime Minister Modi also met Australian Governor General David Hurley and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton and discussed people-to-people contacts and strengthening the longstanding bilateral partnership. Prime Minister Modi arrived in Sydney on Monday for the third and final leg of his three-country tour. He had traveled to Japan and Papua New Guinea before coming to Australia.
