Nashik News | Nashik Municipal Corporation loss reached Rs 28 crore

Nashik: There have been many changes in the financial condition of the Nashik Municipal Corporation in just two months of the current fiscal year. The loss of the Municipal Corporation was about Rs 350 crore two months ago, now it has been reduced to only Rs 28 crore. Due to this, the coffers of the Municipal Corporation have been filled to a great extent. For the past 18 years, the deposits of approximately Rs 12.5 crore of the Municipal Corporation have been stuck in the bank.

The Nashik Municipal Commissioner, after presenting the budget for the year 2022-23, handed over the budget to the Standing Committee. During this, due to the administrative rule on the Municipal Corporation, the commissioner’s budget was executed. The Municipal Commissioner had submitted a budget of Rs 2082 crore. The Standing Committee and the General Assembly were not added to this, so this budget remained constant at the same amount. The financial management of the municipal corporation is largely based on refunds of GST, house tax, water tax and development charges from the urban planning department.

The deficit was largely reduced by tax collection.

Last year, the municipal administration had announced to develop some of its properties on the basis of a PPP and prepared an estimated budget to raise around Rs 250 crore, but this decision was not implemented. Along with this, due to the gloomy hope of raising other small amounts of capital, there was a loss of around Rs 350 crore in January 2023, thus the Municipal Corporation had to bear a huge financial burden. The deficit was largely reduced by the collection of taxes by the commissioner in conjunction with the tax, urban planning, and other departments.

did this to cut losses

Paths are dug for water pipes, gas pipelines and many other reasons. Instead of digging these roads, the road damage fee has to be deposited in the treasury of the Municipal Corporation. Roads were extensively excavated in and around the city of Nashik to lay the pipeline. Instead of this, the Municipal Corporation has recouped Rs 104 crore, 68 lakh from these companies. On the other hand, Rs 24 crore was deposited in the Municipal Corporation treasury due to construction work done for other reasons including pipeline. With this amount, the Tax Department and the Town Planning Department managed to reduce the loss from Rs 350 crores to Rs 28 crores.

Tax collection exceeded target

The Municipal Corporation receives funds from the XV Finance Commission of the Central Government to carry out various works and projects. 100% tax collection was the condition for receiving this fund, through which the municipal administration collected Rs 189 crore. The municipal commissioner had given a target of Rs 185 crore to the tax department, but the tax department managed to recover more than the target.

12.48 crores are stuck in Shriram Bank

For the past 15 to 18 years, Rs 12 crore, Rs 48 lakh from the Municipal Corporation is stuck in Shri Ram Bank. The Municipal Administration is contacting the Commissioner of Cooperatives to get the amount deposited in Shri Ram Bank, but nothing can be said about when the amount will be received.
